Dark Potential Proxies

Post by Wulfgaerd » Fri Nov 20, 2015 6:20 pm

As many of us are aware, Miniwargaming started a project a while back to create their own wargame, Dark Potential. The project is on hold, but the minis are still in production, and some of them are pretty nice. Since it seems a pity that the models do not have a finished native system to use them in, I figured I'd open a debate on what they could be proxied as in casual games of Infinity (Their legality in tournament play is questionable.) The aesthetics seem similar, and I think the scale should be right. If anyone her owns both Infinity and Dark Potential and could give a size comparison, that would be helpful.
To kick things off, I'll say that I could see the Reclaimer Initiates could easily find a place in a Nomad army, given that faction's propensity for flat and semi-featureless helmets. Wildcats are the first thing that comes to mind, though Zeroes, Prowlers, and Spektrs are also options. The disciplined poses and uniformity of the Petrov-Morales Corporation Recruits would make them fit pretty well in PanO as Fusiliers or Acontecimento Regulars, or possibly in Haqquislam as Ghulams. The PMC director, oddly, seems like he would fit best as a Moderator from Bakunin, given the dynamic pose and irregular clothing. The PMC Sniper is a bit trickier to place, but would definitely fit in the Infinity aesthetic, given the cloak. Perhaps a Hassassin Lasiq? Can't figure out spots for the Reclaimer Forward Observer or the PMC Heavy Weapon Specialist. I'm sure the X'Lanthos have some place in the Combined Army, but I'm not too familiar with them, so I don't know what they would be. Obviously, since we're talking proxies here, the possibilities are basically endless, so what do you all think?

Definitely not for ITS play, but I do not see why you could not use them as stand ins for casual based games. That is, of course, providing you opponent agrees..

Well, Infinity is somewhat proxy-friendly, given that a lot of units don't have models, or have a weapon profile that they aren't modeled with, so I doubt it would be a problem in casual play.

I am inclined to agree. Just, every so often, you encounter "that guy" who makes a fuss out of it.

Personally, I am of the belief that if you take the time to learn the rules and engage in the hobby, some amount of proxies or stands is fine. As long as it is not abused.
