What books do I need to buy?

Post by SobieFett » Fri Jan 24, 2014 2:26 pm

So, I'm new to Infinity. I'm buying two starter sets to get people in my area into Infinity. This way I can provide two armies to get more people involved. I got a Nomad starter and a Yu Jing starter. What books are required to play? The Nomad army is the Corregidor command and the Imperial army from Yu Jing. Thanks in advance for the help.

The Quick answer: None.

all the rules are free on the Infinity website including an extensive wiki/faq where you can literally type in any stat/weapon/rule and it will produce the answer. In addition, Corvus Belli provides a free army builder that has all the army lists for every faction and sectorial and prints out your army on nice little lists with special rules and weapons at the bottom. You need no books to play the game.

So why buy the books? Fluff and Art. But oh, it is worth it!

You get a little bit of fluff about the factions from the information available in the unit write-ups but nowhere really gives you a really comprehensive look at what each factions goals, history and plans are - that's where the books come in. In addition to great artwork, the core rules explains the set-up of the galaxy, the background to the various factions and is packed with thematic art. It also compiles some of the information into a handy, single source - not so much in the first book, but I found the 3rd book was handy that way... I'll explain:

1) Core Rules -
- contains the basic rules to the game
- includes the ground-work fluff for the history of the infinity world and where each faction is at

2) Human Sphere -
- expanded fluff about the political workings of the infinity world
- adds fluff and rules for the Aleph faction
- adds fluff and rules for Sectorial Armies
- Rules for link teams (which are available online)

3) Campain Paradiso -
- adds fluff and rules for the Tohaa faction
- contains the full campaign of 'Paradiso' (fluff etc.)
- contains full rules for designing and running campaigns (which I find more succinct in the the
book format rather than the online info)
- contains rules for Spec Ops characters, heros who can gain experience (again, I find that the
rules are easier to follow in the book than they are online)

I like the fluff in Infinity, so I own all three books - if someone asked me, bare bones what they need to have a full infinity experience I would say just the Campaign Paradiso book - the rules from the other two are readily available; and they are for CP as well, but I found it better laid out and clearer in the book.

Hope that helps!

This is another great resource it is a collection of all the online available rules and information from the wiki as well. it is very very well done with a TOC. cover page. although it is all text and has no pictures at all, it is a great carry around reference.
