GB 47 - Take cover! = Completed

Postby bugbait_nz » Sat Jul 13, 2013 5:29 am

Infinity need lots of terrain, lots of large pieces, and more importantly lots of small scatter pieces.

To start with I will be making small groups of barrels/oil drums.
Strips of 210 x 22mm paper + Amos glue stick and then wrapped around an AA battery.
1mm heavy paper (green) PVA glued around the top and bottom.
Solid strand network cable (UTP) with the plastic stripped off, wrapped around a battery for shape, trimmed to size and then super glued to the paper, tooth pick used to draw a blob of glue around so it creates a filet between the wire and paper.
Battery is then Blue Tack'd to card, a sharp knife is then used to cut out the circle for the top and bottom.
Leather hole punch and small craft punch used to make the caps from cardboard.
Hole drilled in the side of the barrel + paper clip that goes from one side to the other + super glue to hold it all together.

I like those barrels. I think you did a tutorial at one point. I just can't find it :(

Can't wait to see them finished.

Colour is on, trying to get decent looking warning labels that are 4mm high is proving to be difficult.

Got the warning signs done
Resize the images to 240 pixels wide at 1000 dpi, and dropped them into Open Office to print at about 5mm high, I had to change the images so they would print very small, the lines on the skull were thickened, the biohaz sign had the inner image shrunk so there was more yellow surrounding it.
Painted the paper edges black, took ages but was worth the effort IMHO.

Bugbait... as with every single thing I have seen you make, this is excellent. I love your attention to detail and it clearly shows in your work. Great job with these seemingly simple items.

Wow, that is amazing!

If you don't mind me asking, how long did the assembly take on all those barrels?

Thanks S!

@LC the tubes are very quick to make, 1mm trim is easy, the wire either goes on first time or takes ages to flatten out and get to sit right . . . Im guessing 3-4 minutes if all goes well, I usually make the tubes and leave them overnight for the glue to set.

Dirt wash followed by rust stippling on black, dark brown, light brown and orange.

I need to make some 'exploding barrels' for Heavy Gear Arena.
