Group Build 34: Dangerous Terrain...Alien Craters...COMPLETE

Post by swedishchef » Thu Mar 22, 2012 12:25 am

First time poster, be gentle. :)

I spent some time in the fake flower section of my local hobby store and came across some lotus pods:

These things have always creeped me out a bit, so I figured why not embrace that with some alien and dangerous terrain. These things are kinda messy, but use a hacksaw, or hobby saw to hack off the stem, glue it to a piece of foam board and then rim it with Reindeer Moss.

Image

The stuff is preserved such that it does not dry out, comes in tons of colors and can be made to do a million things. I made a few varieties and even filled on with hot glue and plan on painting up a few more like an acid dripping maw. Tentacles and such to come with Green stuff and will be added soon. The stalks are not painted in any way and are from an artificial plant called a Machoy.

Pics of in progress work:

That's a great idea, I never thought of using those lotus pod things like that!

Ok so, got these done just in time to play my first planetstrike game this weekend. Pics of the completed Alien craters incoming....

@commando_jim - I KNOW!! That is exactly why I used these pieces, they creep me out just enough to find them threatening.

Ahh man, My skins crawling just looking at it. But to be fair, I'm a borderline Trypophobe. Burn them man, burn them before they spread!

I AM SO STEALING THIS IDEA!
New research has discovered that research causes cancer in lab rats.
Assembled the model before painting?? It's not a n00b mistake, it's a training exercise to improve your painting skills
