Managed to finish off the fire warriors last night except the optics. Should be able to complete them tonight if all goes to plan... :)

Thanks guys...

So nothing done yesterday. Work ran late and I had to get some fishing gear afterwards...
But...
Today is my Birthday!!!!
So probably won't get much done today either.

I have been slowly working on getting a skyray prepped.
In the meantime though I need your help. I made this a short time ago and am lost on how to paint it. Mostly the sand. The original idea was that this would be in a barren desert environment. Left for hundreds of years and the elements have done their usual. So far this is just based with a sandy spray paint. I want to retain this (sun bleached/parched/dry/arid)color but obviously I need to shade and highlight it. I can't figure out how to go about shading it so I keep the color. I don't want to darken it too much....
Any ideas....

One thing that comes to mind is carbon scouring. Like when the atomic bombs were dropped, the heat left carbon shadows of the people who died. I think that would be a cool thing to add to the walls and floors.

But, that scouring would have to be pretty light considering it has been sun bleached for hundreds of years.

I would say use a sepia wash, which for me just makes a bit of a darkening, and then re-highlight. Are you thinking a yellow/white sandy desert or a yellow/red?

 Yes, yes it would.... It's an idea I hadn't thought of yet though. Maybe I'm going too clean in my head and that's holding me back....

Whenever I use sepia over a light base it turns reddish/pinkish in hue. Sepia is actually a tad red if I'm correct but even I didn't expect it to come out so RED. Maybe a light brown would work though...

Yellow/white I guess. I basically want that same color that's there now. Sort of gray/brown in the undertones with bleached highlights.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Thanks guys! :D
I'm pretty excited to get that thing painted. The fact that it's hull is one solid piece is going to make it so easy to prep too. Just need to figure out how it's supposed to go onto it's flying base. Certainly kept me on my goal this weekend to magnetize my SkyRay. Almost done that now too. Juts need a piece of sheet metal for the turret mount and a few small mags here or there.

Weathering powders work great. Just grab some on a brush and wipe it onto the mini. If it's too much just wipe away. I've never used these before, only Tamiya's weathering powders. if these are anything like those they will be good. The only downside to powders is that they are exactly that, powders and can be wiped or blown off if not sealed properly.Often sealing them in with a varnish will negatively react with the powder.
