The Guardsmen

Post by tyranid4glory » Wed Apr 10, 2013 5:10 am

This is a simple 40k game.
You are all a guardsmen. The default type. I will give you a two options. One will lead to your demise, the other will allow you to live. Say which option you chose, and a day later I will tell you what happens. Each survival will give you 1 survival point. Every three days you can rejoin as a new recruit (back to 0 survival points).
Set the scene:
Planet Gravicus. An imperial hive world thrown into war by the invading ork waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh led by bigtoof badbreff, the silliest ork ever. Nonetheless, he must be stopped.
Imperial guard deployed to counter threat. Spacemarines arrive as well.
The Gravicus 456ths, A group of recruits, fresh to war. No one expects them to survive, down to the last man.
Day 1:
You run from the shelter of base, into a hail of gunfire. Heavy rounds tear harsh chunks from the masonary behind you. Explosions echo around the improbable height of the hive spires, pollution choking the view of the air, which is thick with dogfights.
The dusty brown ground has shrapnel everywhere. You stumble over some, becoming entangled. The gunfire seems to increase. The artillery behind your base thunders with the rythmic ba-BUMMMM. You struggle ,but you twist your leg painfully. Running will be difficult, but staying hear could be worse.
You have to make a choice...

Do you:
A) Attempt to run to cover through the gunfire
OR
B) Stay put, keeping your head down.

Respond with either A or B, giving a reason why. Tommorow I will give the outcome.

Item list:
1 survival point:
Shoulder armour:
Deflects glancing hits and wounds that might prevent you from aiming.
Leg guard:
Stops leg injuries and debry trips, as well as being tripped over in a fight
2 survival points:
Frag grenade (light):
Removes wreckage, and can kill up to 3 targets. Can be used to sabotage items
Las gun scope:
Improves aiming and sight while aiming, useful to target through smoke.
3 survival points:
Med pack:
Restores your health, and keeps you in prime condition. Note that it won't heal a tank shot or vechile inflicted injuries.
Second gun:
When is more firepower ever bad?
4 survival points:
Vox caster:
Offers a medium communication range that can bring in reinforcements to the game on a roll of a 6 (I will roll it). Every person with a vox caster lowers the roll. (to a minimum of 2+)
Med kit:
Brings back a dead player on the roll of a 6, or a wounded player is healed on a 4+. The effect is lowered just like that of a vox caster for every person with one.
Demo kit:
Destroys big objects, like cannons, reinforced doors and barricades. Does not require any roll.
5 survival points:
Second grenade pack. Adds up to 3 more frag grenades or 1 krak grenade.
Body armour:
Improves general strength and resistance to injury. Counts as a built in med pack.
Target lock:
Improves roll needed for heavy weapons strikes for every player with one.
Heavy bolter:
Hits on a 5+, and kills 3 infantry targets or damages 1 strong target. All heavy weapons need 1 turn to set up before it can be fired.
Lascannon:
Hits on a 6+, and kills 1 target instantly, unless its massive.
Rocket launcher:
Functions like a lascannon or a rocket launcher, depending on what munitions its loaded with.
Grenade launcher:
A portable rocket launcher that counts as having frag rounds. Does not need target locks.
Bolt pistol:
Powerful weapon that is great at sabotaging equipment.
Chainsword:
Powerful melee weapon. You cant weild a heavy weapon with this item equipped.
Full helmet:
Improves aim, sight, adds a helmet torch and filters toxins, as well as granting a one time only headshot resistance.
6 survival points:
Artillery strike:
One use only. Counts as 10 frag rockets and 5 krak rockets. Only can be used outdoors. Hits on a 4+, but works with target lock
Missile strike:
Same as artillery strike, except halves number of rockets. Can be used anywhere.
7 survival points:
Spec ops shoulder amour:
Same as default type, except counts as having two built in med packs.
Spec ops Leg gaurds:
Same as default type, except counts as having 6 grenade slots (loaded with 1 frag and krak)
8 survival points coming soon:
Portable heavy weapons. Same as ordianry type, except don't have the 1 turn delay.
(Heavy bolter, Lascannon and Rocket launcher)
Spec ops Body armour:
Comes with a spare lasgun, two pistol holsters and a built in med pack.
Spec ops lasgun:
Comes with scope, and auxilary grenade launcher loaded with 1 frag grenade,as well as a bayonet.
9 survival points:
Orgyn bodygaurd:
Armed with grenade launcher and standard amour. You can buy items for it from the list. If you would die, then the bodygaurd takes it for you.
Spec ops helmet:
Complete with target lock, flashlight and a small communicator that counts as a vox caster, but cannot be used if your the only one with it. (So it just lowers the roll basically)
Reinforced plating:
Counts as an extra life. Worth it? I think so.
10 survival points:
Congradulations! You have reached tough guard rank. You can recieve 1 free item that is below 3 survival points in value. Expect better gear (Like a sentinel at 19 survival points) and your unique item: Personal heraldry!
Personal heraldry is an item that is referred to in game, like:
"Oh look, its Sniperfex with his choas spacemarine and teacup emblem! Wow!" (Bad example)

In... I choose B, it seems the sensible thing to do while there's loads of gunfire going on

and even if an ork is stupid, they won't normally charge if their friends are shooting in that direction

I choose A. Orks like big guns, so we'll likely be shelled. They also have no concept of aiming, so I should be fine.

As the guards who elected to run charged forward, the ones that stayed put watched in terror. They got hit, badly wounded and some got slain outright.
The ones who lived crawled foward, but yet again they have to make a choice. Did they stay, and risk being hit by the increasing ork shelling, or crawl forward, hoping to reach cover... others decided to shoot blindly into the smog and wreckage
Do you:
A) Crawl towards cover
OR:
B) Stay put.
OR:
C)Shoot blindly

Just for once, everyone lives. So you two survivors got a free Survival point!
However, this one will be real...

Also, you can "cash in" survival points for a better piece of gear that may help later on.
And, every 10 points you earn gives you a promotion. Promotions unlock better gear.
Rank 1: Recruit: 0-9 Survival points.
1 survival points:
Shoulder armor: Deflects glancing hits against you.
This item grants players immunity to shrapnel wounds.
Leg guard: Stops you cutting your leg or being tripped so easily
This item grants players resistance to shrapnel and debry
Combat gloves: Allows you to handle dangerous materials like sharp debry or toxic items.
Grants players the ability to move shrapnel.
2 survival points;
Frag grenade;
Kills an incoming target/Removes obstacles
Las gun scope:
Allows you to see into obscured areas.

The gaurdsmen who stayed put got hit by falling shells, those who were shooting were wounded. Those people who moved forward got into the trenches, safe and sound(well, as safe and sound you can be on a battlefield.) The wounded gaurdsmen struggled to rise, and had to make the same choice as before, Crawl foward or Stay put.
They who reached the trenches could:
A) Shoot into the battlefield.
OR;
B) Atempt to rescue a wounded gaurdsmen (Say who you want to rescue)
