A font?

Post by folifurieuz » Fri Jan 13, 2012 2:12 pm

I had some spare time and I like making fonts, so bam!

This is mostly just for fun, but if people feel that it adequately conveys the sense of the game (or that it does just the opposite and misrepresents it completely), or if it's just tweaking that you feel needs to be done - whatever input you might feel so inclined to put in - let me know.

Don't mind the random lines around the text. they are not part of the font: they are residual from the font's creation, much like an umbilical cord...

Ya its pretty slick. I don't really have to much criticism for you though. It appears to feel both futuristic and gritty, which has Dark Potential written (in that font) all over it!

I think thats the imagery we need for this game: It may be post apocalyptic and gritty (bandits, animals) but also it is sill futuristic as not all tech is lost (reclaimers, X'lanth)

I'm working on a variation of this... I don't like the "tential" bit, which is like half of the syllables so I should do something about it...

only real critique is to think about colour scheme and texture and arrangement and cases (upper or lower)

Looks good, though I'm not liking the kick at the bottom of the letters - on all 3 points of the A for example. There should only be kick on letter with a single straight line - T's, I's P's etc.

The one comment I think I'd make is that from an artistic standpoint, the horizontal eye-lines dragging through the text and its machine-rendered rigidity of line speaks of an electronic, urban future - think Blade Runner, Fifth Element, Shadowrun, and similar settings. It seems to me that the verdant yet post apocalyptic setting in the concept art shown so far plus the asian-fusion flair of the character concept pieces Matt has shown want something slightly more curvilinear, slightly more calligraphic. The message seems like it needs to be more about a decrepit era firmly rooted in centuries of context, none of which quite fits daily life any more. Ergo, something a little more organic or hand-written "art" style might fit the bill?
