scale?

Post by dragonianwolf » Fri Mar 09, 2012 3:51 pm

hey all

I've bin wondering this whole time what the scale is of warhammer 40K
as most models (like cars, planes, boats,...) have a scale like 1/40cm or 1/15"
also what are the scales on other mini wargames
hope you can help
what do you get when you take necrons and put them in orks
hmmm....
maybe necrorks (robotick soulless orks with the mind of orks)

IIRC its 28mm heroic scale (bigger hands heads etc....)

vehicles are weird... dunno if they follow a paticular "scale"... maybe something like 20-23mm?

A space marine is roughly 30mm tall so its a scale of about 1/55. This varies between mini companies depending where they measure their miniatures too.

Vehicles are about 1/60.

1/64th is the S scale in model trains.

for models outside the the games, like revell, monogram, moebius and so on, you want to look for 1/72nd which is noticeably smaller, but not so much that it can't be used, to 1/30th, 1/35th scale which can be a bit larger. generally the smaller the number the larger the model. so a model car at 1/10 scale would be about the size of your couch, possibly, it all depends on what scale the model makers used as well.

1:73.2

The most common size of miniatures, as it is used by Games Workshop. While original 25 mm figures matched 1:76 models (4 mm scale or 00 gauge), there developed wide upwards variation in figure height. True 28 mm figures are close to 1:64 models (S scale), but may appear larger due to bulky sculpting and thick bases.

I find it really annoying when I compare an imperial guardsmen and a regular space marine. They are almost the same height! And they are supposbly like 8 feet tall, towering over normal men.

1:48 is about same height and half the girth. Truth GW made their own scale and every one like/uses it.
