Hunters in Cataclysm

Post by The Airman » Tue Dec 21, 2010 2:29 am

So I'm almost 85 on my hunter, and I can't help notice our superiority in PVE, but utter uselessness in PvP. Has anyone else experienced the same feeling?

I feel like they just destroyed my favorite class with the changes in cataclysm.

Since when did you pick WoW back up?

Anyhow, aspect of the fox is a godsend for hunter pvp is is cobra shot (I believe? It's the shot that reduces all healing to the afflicted by 50%)

I enjoy my hunter immensely more with the advent of focus though :D and the fact that BM is at least semi viable (although I don't believe the best)

The main problem with focus is that you have to be standing still to regain your focus. This works excellently in PvE, but in PvP you have to keep moving; Aspect of the Fox DOES address this, but it's more of a band aid to a grisly wound. Especially when warriors/rogues/feral druids are in your face, so you're unable to shoot them anyhow rendering you a free "honor" kill. Plus it encourages you to get hit (2 focus per hit taken), which also encourages you to die (more) often. Removing our dodge and Aspect of the Dragonhawk is also extremely bad, seeing how we NEED dodge to survive to a marginally better degree.

Why can't a hunter commit suicide? Because the target is too close. I propose one fix: Remove our ability to use melee weapons. Sure, we can have them, but they're just stat sticks from here on in -- this will allow us to shoot melee oriented classes in the face.

But I'll continue to PvP. Each kill I get is truly a skill-based achievement. Problem, Blizzard? Seems you failed to completely destroy our class. Then again, hunters has ALWAYS been at the bottom of the totem pole. Remember the arena seasons? Hunters were THE least represented class since Burning Crusade. Not much I can do other than play a gimped class or reroll to an overpowered frost mage or a priest with mind spikes.

What irks me is it takes one mash of a hotkey and one keyclick for an AoE and we're knocked out of "stealth". Ah well, it's situational -- I don't see how I can use it regularly.

I played a Hunter in Cata up to 38 (I know not super far) and it was a really fun class to play. My leveling went super fast and there was almost no downtime to PvE. Out in questing zones I pretty much took down every other Alliance player I met unless they were ridiculously high level. I think overall though Hunters are easy to learn to a certain point, IE PvE, and perhaps take a lot of finesse when it comes to PvP. I'm not saying I'm super good at PvP, I'm actually pretty bad at it  but I did notice a serious difference in the way I had to approach players vs mobs when it came to that class.

I don't get why blizz couldn't have just made it a full on stealth with a duration/cooldown, that woulda been 100x more useful imo...

The Shadowmeld ability is utterly useless -- I know this because I play a Night Elf hunter and I NEVER use it, nor know anyone who does.
