Getting started in Peace River

Post by Ricer » Sat Apr 09, 2011 4:51 am

Hello,

Well I just bought (on MWG) Peace River Patrol Squad, Peace River Starter Squad, the HGB Locked & Loaded Rulebook Rev 1.1 (Full Color, Softcover), and 3 sets of counters. Is this enough to get started playing against a few HGB player? Also I am looking to playing a Peace River army with attachments of Black Talons, and I have read that I will need to get a second book to help run the Black Talons in the army is this true and what book is it?, if it is.

Thank You

hey, great to know that you've started. anywayz, first off, you will have 21 miniatures and enough tokens for 15 of them, that is actually quite godd but i would reccomend getting another set if you want to use your whole force. second you do need a book for black talons but you can just download gear garage on http://www.dp9.com for free and it shows you all the stats of the black talons anyway so it is good if you don't want to pay an extra 30 bucks.
also a word of advice, i would start getting infantry and artillery because it will help with other armies quite a it. get the cataphract soon as well, great mini in game and to look at.

Are you sure I have 21? I though it was 10 in the Peace river starter and then 5 in the other squad I got ... ?

As for the others I have been looking at some Red Bull MkII Striders and some Coyote Striders. Would this be artillery?

sorry, i accidently added another squad to your number by accidnet, you have 15 don't you. (still a bit of a newb)
i'm pretty sure that the red bull is artillery, put it in the back and get a warrior to forward observe for it, you should be quite frmoidable, thats about 1000-1250 points that you got yourself if you add the red bull (gives you wings) sorry couldn't resist.

the Red Bulls are awesome models, as well as the Cataphracts, and you can put them together in the same squad. The redbull's are tankstriders and the coyotes are light tankstriders, both cool. They are elites but a two Redbull-two Cataphract squad makes an awesome sight on the battlefield.

go to http://www.assembla.com/spaces/GearGarage/documents and download the latest Gear Garage, it helps you build your army.

What size of magnets should I use when building these miniatures? I have 1/16 by 1/8 and 1/16 by 1/16.

That should be a good start right there with what you have. To have a black talon attachment, you need to get Return to Cat's Eye for their army list, and to know that your Peace River needs to be at PL4 and what the BT's can and cannot take as an attachment force.

black talons are awesome but i wouldn't reccomend buying them and return to cats eye untill you have about 1250 points of peace river, you can play priority level 4 with 500 points but it is not as fun if you don't have enough points. if i were you i would get a red bull and a squad of warriors or skirmishers, after that feel free to start collecting black talons, i would reccomend using peace river cor, auxillery and specialists and all black talon elites, go for the vultures and dark kodiaks.

Sorry I haven't been on for a while, but yeah I plan to get a few more squads and those striders so I can lead with a Peace River Force and then I was thinking of getting the Black Talon as my Elite. Although I plan to get I think it is a dark jagur and two dark cobras for the Elite, and then mod on Cobra to look like a hooded cobra (It was my favorite gear in Heavy Gear 2, the PC game, sadly it isn't compatible with windows 7). Although at this point I am just waiting on shipping and then to the building

you can have a squad with 2 cataprachts and 2 red bulls (justthought i'd let you know) also, i would buy some warriors and gve them different builds because then you can have a whole new squad or have multiple variations of one squad.

IMO, that's your best advantage in PR; their combat squads are so much more customizable compared to what the North and South have to offer.

ahem, what i was saying, something else that you might want to buy is some shinobi because they one of the best recon and electronic warfare units currently in the game, i've only been playing for a little while so i am not sure if they are the most usefull in peace river but their stats are pretty good, flatline correct me if i said anything wrong since you know a lot more about this game then i do (really, A LOT) in the army book the peace river warriors are quite good and have multiple builds so your best bet is to buy 6 extra and give 3 of them different special weapons and the 3 left over will be made to make another squad if needed because veteran peace river can take 4 special weapons, i like the rapid fire bazooka (2 shots of 15 damage each, thats a lot of damage) but correct me if i am wrong flatline.

I think you might be reading the rules wrong. AFAIK, RFBs have a ROF X special rule, which means they can either up the damage by the X value, or spread it out by X inches and reduce the damage of each shot by X value.
