Final decision on whether we will use the new book

Post by miniwargaming » Tue Jul 16, 2013 11:58 am

Hey everybody,

Now that I've finally been able to see the new Apocalypse book, I've come to a decision as to whether we will use it.

The answer is "mostly" no.

What we will not be using:
-any of the new rules, including the new Destroyer rules
-any of the new Strategic Assets, including those earned in formations

What you are allowed to use:
-any of the new datasheets, including new formations, Super Heavies, and Gargantuan creatures

Let me know if you have any questions.

Matthew

Matt, this sounds great. So are we using the hull points system with the "new" damage table? I also have a question about basing models. Do I have to base skimmer flying stands? I have about 20 destroyers and I wasn't sure if I could leave them clear or not.

I have seen an equal amount of yes and no in tournament armies. I leave it clear as its supposed to be "invisible" and not seen

Flying stands do not have to be based, including flyers.

As for hull points and structure points, non super heavy vehicles will use the table in the 40k rulebook, and super heavy vehicles will use the table in the older Apocalypse rulebook.

I'm somewhat new to 40k, I've been playing for almost a year. I never played a 5th edition apoc game, so I have a couple questions about super heavies. How does haywire, entropic strike, and guass weapons (damn necrons) work against super heavies ? Also do Ap1 and 2 weapons get bonuses on the super heavy damage table? thanks

@ Knightfall02 - The 5th ed. Apocalypse rules we'll be using are still on Forge World's website.

Hey Matt, I've been assuming it would be ok, but I'll ask just to be sure. Is it ok if I use the C'tan models as Transcendent C'tan? That way I don't have to fork out $160 for one? They are even mounted on the monstrous creature bases, instead of the small clear base that the actual model comes with. They are also the same height.

Thanks!

@ xtroopers9 I didn't know there was a GW-produced model for the transcendent C'tan. The only one I've seen with that label was the C'tan from the Megalith box set, that can also be a regular C'tan.

Are you referring to the same model, or is there a piece of eye candy out there I'm not privy to?

No I was just referring to the one from the megalith set. I guess now that you mention it, any of the C'tan models could be used as transcendent C'tan since there isn't really a model.

Unfortunately not. Since we are insisting on WYSIWYG, the C'Tan model needs to be used as a C'Tan.

A suggestion, why don't we just use hull points (structure * 3) as the base for super heavies?

If we use an old datasheet, it's in structure points, and things get messy for glances...
If we use a new datasheet, it's in hull points, and keeps it easy for glancing hits

Even with the old damage table from v5, it's easy to convert quickly from structure to hull, but you end up with fractions if you go the other way.

Even if there is not an "official" model?

*edit* I checked the GW website and the model that they show as a transcendent C'tan, is mentioned as being a C'tan shard. So it appears that they are using the model interchangeably.

Its still your call and I will abide by whatever ruling.
