Dwarf Army Advice

Is it possible to do a very melee heavy army with minimal artillery and still win games? If so what are some 2000 pt list ideas?

It's possible to do so, however it hinges on banners to really make the most of it. Taking the Strollaz Rune on the banners is essential to making it into combat as quickly as you can. Taking this banner rune confers Vanguard to the unit allowing you to essential get two march moves at the very start of the game, take several and slap on some cheaper runes such as Ancestor to avoid the Rule of Pride and you are ready to go.

Also the Master rune of Grugni is going to be needed on your BSB to help protect your little bearded warriors as they slowly move up the board. Taking this not only protects your bsb but provides a bubble of 5+ ward goodness to your army.

Moving on to units that can really shine in this kind of list are Miners, basically a Warrior but with ambush potential for no additional points cost!

Gyrocopters are very good with this kind of list as they provide a very fast model that can harass the enemy lines and set up flank charges to break that crucial combat.

And of course the stars in this kind of list are Hammerers and Ironbreakers, the former a super hard hitting hammer and the second an anvil that will never break.

For your core you can either take Warriors to make a bunker for one of your characters or take some ranged infantry to help support the rest of the army.

Looks like good advice to me. I prefer a melee based army and use miners and gyros to help force the battle towards the main units.

Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in... personally I think the answer is No.

All but 2 units have only 1 attack each... hammerers now have 2 and are awesome, but only have heavy armor... and slayers are naked and come with 2 if they all have the extra hand weapons.

I've tried to go very light on warmachines... it just can't go toe to toe with the big contenders... Dark Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves, Chaos... all have to many answers for M3 blocks of infantry.

Gyrocopters are amazing, miners coming in the background are awesome as well, but going super melee heavy not only takes away your shooting, but by being a dwarf you've already given up magic....

Banners do work, but now you're paying a ton more than anyone else for your units and will be greatly outnumberd!

An all meele dwarf... who has a doubles partner is a different story, and hilarious when 2-3 units have vangaurd... :D
