Re: Science and Setting

My intentions when I logged in today were to raise my concerns about the direction DP was going and to express my intent to bow out following the development any more. Reading some of cymruvoodoo's posts has changed my mind. My main concerns were: the expression that DP was based in hard science whi...

Re: It's time to nail down Dark Matter

Okay for once I am actually happy that nobody else replied. :D So I will start from the first of your points vanishing. (snipping most of the post since I'm not responding point by point (ya ya, stop cheering)) Like you say we want a system that touches with real physics at just one or two points. ...

Re: Animal Faction Discussion

I like the idea of a "force of nature" style to the animals. I also agree that unless the animals have a motivation they are pointless to the scenario. I'd like to suggest a starting point to try and drive those ideas. We know that the X'lanthos created the virus to kill humans and be harmless to th...

Re: Mechanics idea: Bayonet

bayonets are a cool idea, especially with the charge thingy, but i think it does not hold its ground in cqc, mainly because a knife/machete in one hand and another free one is more manouverable than a small spear. Spears have been the main armament of almost every army until the advent of firearms....

Re: It's time to nail down Dark Matter

So what we need to create a universe that makes some scientific sense and will allow us to implement exotic behavior is to have something with positive and negative energy density. Actually, you only need something with negative energy density. We have lots of stuff with positive energy density. We...

Re: Notes on No Mooks

I should warn you, I have used cloning technology in my own fanfic in the past, particularly by the X'lanthos (for whom the technology is extremely obvious). But for some reason, a few readers "don't like" clones, it's weird. I'm one of those people. My personal dislike of clones is that it doesn't...

Re: It's time to nail down Dark Matter

Greetings; been a while, interesting discussion you are having. So far it doesn't look like there's a firm consensus on the approach to "dark potential" powers. I don't have much to add (well, I do but for the moment I think it would further confuse things rather than clarify) but I wanted to bring ...

An idea for hard counters

I was thinking about hard counters and stealth and had a thought. I know hard counters were dropped from consideration but could they be revived if units were initially deployed anonymously? The idea is that your initial deployment would be placing unit tokens which don't represent any particular un...

Re: faster than light speed possible?

It's a fascinating observation but it's too soon to know what it means. The most likely explanation, despite this being a 6-sigma observation, is that there's an undiscovered problem with the data. So far this is the only observation of this and there are many, many observations of neutrinos going a...

Re: Reworking the concept of "dark matter"

4. my idea: the highways could esentially be large chunks of dark matter that orbit numerous stars. the large chunks are what cause the highways to form.. somehow I like this idea. Perhaps the matter drags the spacetime (or whatever is analogous) of the dimension it's in as it collects around the s...

Re: Area of Effect attacks

Just throwing this idea out there... Instead of using special scatter dice, template etc... when using a weapon that can scatter use two different coloured d6 for the 'to hit' roll. Say one black and one white. The roller nominates a dice as the scatter dice before the roll, and where it ends up in...

Re: The "flavour" of the Corporation

I'm actually hoping for a very clear line between the bandits and the corp. The trope of every faction being a shade of grey has been done to death lately. It would be refreshing to have clear morality, even if it's not realistic. Having the corp taking control not because they want to but because m...

Re: are solos limited like squads?

Even going prone on flat ground with no cover makes you much harder to hit. I believe that's why the military teaches its soldiers to advance quickly then go prone in short bursts, to minimize their target profile. I don't think gaining cover in the open is a good mechanic for this game but I do thi...

Re: Overal story

I don't think that timeline is unreasonable. 100 years ago the idea of jets taking us from New York to London in a few hours might have seemed like ridiculous fantasy, much less men landing on the Moon. I doubt Matt conceives of the Moon being colonized by terraforming it. Mars and Venus could be in...

Re: Reworking the concept of "dark matter"

now im not physicist in the least so tell me if this could even happen. what if the dark matter didnt do anything by itself. it just sat there, just like Caesium would. BUT, when you add say a laser-beam, or something, it would act like dropping caesium into water. you get a new reaction. perhaps D...
