Re: Blood Tithe Rule (RAW vs RAI)

It seems pretty clear that the rule only applies to models in a challenge. To read it otherwise would imply that the "or" is linking two unrelated sentences, which would make no sense individually and doesn't follow standard English grammar rules.

Re: Iron Warriors

The best way to find out what you can and cannot do is by asking some locals. Warhammer 40,000 doesn’t appear to have an actual rule set these days, but rather a core set of rules and a series of “expansions” which some people play with and some people don’t. You can usually count on 1 primary detac...

Re: 500 pt. beginner army/Chaos

I think it would help a lot if you looked at the model line and could pick out a favourite single model or unit. For a Death Guard army (Nurgle’s legion), I have been more impressed by Plague Zombies than Plague Marines, especially at lower point values, since Plague Marines are just so damned expen...

Re: Are the melee obliteraters any good?

One of the guys that comes to our tournaments from out of town uses a single mutilator with the mark of nurgle as a DISTRACTION CARNIFEX. They are actually really good in this role from what I have seen, since 55 points for a 2 would terminator that will do some damage if it gets into combat with t...

Chaos Space Marines/Chaos Daemons 2000 points

I’m not sure if anyone still does this anymore, but here it goes. I've been out of 40k for a while, but was in the mood to try my hand at a list. This is meant as a competitive list, but seeing how I am seriously out of practice there are likely several flaws in it. I haven’t used any super heavies ...

Re: What should my friend get next?

Two to three Rhinos and a Land Raider. Gets you enough to play a solid 1500-2000 point list, using everything he currently has.

Re: Need some help with my chaos army!

With his current collection, I actually like the Hades better on the Helldrake in most lists, since it's his only source of anti-air and it helps with his somewhat lacking light anti-tank.

Re: Need some help with my chaos army!

If you threw the squads of Noise Marines together, you could give them the Icon of Excess, giving them feel no pain as well. The biggest problem with this list though is a lack of redundancy and an inability to provide critical mass at impact with your close combat units. You need both a better deli...

No assumptions made, just helping hands offered. ;)

I never consider giving someone other avenues to explore a hobby presumptuous or unfair, but maybe that’s just me! ^_^

Re: Completely new to Warhammer 40k, just got Dark Vengeance

I am personally one to research a game extensively before investing in it... particularly one as expensive as Warhammer. What interests me is, in fact the strategic side. More interesting stories, in my opinion, are told in books and I've got a vision impairment, making it difficult to enjoy the pai...

Re: Completely new to Warhammer 40k, just got Dark Vengeance

If I am overwhelming our dear OP, I do apologize, I would be glad to expand on and simplify anything I’ve said so far. Given that you’ve got some experience with video games, is it fair to assume that you’re somewhat familiar with the idea of optimizing a tool kit for the mission at hand? Synergy (c...

Re: Completely new to Warhammer 40k, just got Dark Vengeance

Despite being far less experienced than you and having little time to play Warhammer of late, I still feel relatively confident that I could beat an army that relied primarily on Possessed and tricked out Chosen as the attack element with a more optimal build. There is nothing sub-optimal about Cult...

Re: Completely new to Warhammer 40k, just got Dark Vengeance

I hate to be the nay-sayer, but the Crimson Slaughter expansion includes a lot of very underwhelming units for a Chaos army looking to operate as efficiently as possible, meaning you’re spending a lot of money on models you may not want to use later on if you decide you want to play it competitively...
