So when is your army "done"?

I keep saying - right, that's it, my army is all done.

Then I see a new shiny (or increasingly plastic these days) ... and I'm building again. Or I'm re-adding some detail to a figure.

Anyone here with a "done" army? Or are there only really "armies still under some level of construction"?

Re: Devastator Squad

Thankfully due to having a couple of spare torsos and the odd pair of legs I've managed to build all 9 marines from the Devastator pack. It's always a good idea to keep those spare parts! ;)

Re: Bikes vs. Land Speeders

A land speeder with multi melta - oh yum - this is one of my favourite units in the game. Add on top of that the ability to deep strike. Remember you've got 2D6 armour penetration from your MM under 12 inches. What you have there ladies and gentlemen is the perfect weapon for assassinations. Drop it...

Re: Getting started in Flames of War

Cheers - thanks for the info!

I think unlike Warhammer, there's less out there for "starting out with Flames of War".

Re: Fast attack: assault jet troops or bikers?

I'm going to try a new tactic with my bikers in future. The temptation is to really send them in early, but that means they're way ahead of your other line, and get cut to ribbons. What I'm going to try and do is advance my other units, but hold the bikes behind, sending them in later - to allow me ...

Getting started in Flames of War

We're looking at Flames of War at the moment.

What would you need (figure wise) to really have a starting army - we're looking at German and Russian forces.

Would a tank and infantry pack "get you started" or would I end up needing a little more?

Re: So how are Dark Eldar performing for everyone.

I get the feeling from our game shop that a lot of opponents aren't too up on the rules for Dark Eldar, so struggling in facing them ...

Luke (local shop owner) says the most dedicated players know their own codexes ... then read all the others to work out ways of defeating them!

Re: just startin out in the world of 40k, help with first army?

I guess everything depends on what kind of personality you are, and what you're after in an army. Each army has it's own strengths/weaknesses. The Tau army specialises at shooting from long distances. For my mind they are also some of the best models in the Warhammer range. But they suck at handling...

Re: The Lost Sons Scouting Party

Interesting list - never been a huge one for scouts myself (only ever used them in one game so far). I really ought to get a newer pack of them sometime (they're all the old-school) ...

Re: Fast attack: assault jet troops or bikers?

Should have mentioned I tend to go more for bike troops myself - esp as if you throw in an attack bike with a multi melta, you've got a very mobile unit with some punch.

That said I do like the look of those assault troops ...

Fast attack: assault jet troops or bikers?

Been going over the Space Marines codex this week. There are two units which basically allow you to move rapidly around the board - assault troops or bike troops. Assault troops are slightly cheaper, they specialise at hand-to-hand, and can move over all terrain. Bike troops sport heavier weapons, a...

Re: Devastator Squad

Personally I'm hoping to get a pack of Devastators soon - I've noticed although I've got quite a sizable army, I'm a bit short on heavy weapons (not a single heavy bolter for instance). So I'm hoping to get a Devastator squad, and pick up a pack of 3 Space Marines, and somehow convert them to allow ...

Orks have backstory? I thought it was pretty much "this boss came along then ... WAAAGH!" ;)

Re: Will you be getting a new army anytime soon?

Hmm - I have got back into the hobby through my son. I've been quite lucky as we've got some friends who've given up on the hobby and gifted us some figures, and we've built our armies around that so far, but adding to them from new purchases. I'm always looking through bargain bins at wargames shop...

Re: Create your VERY OWN army!.. But how?!?!

Interesting to know how your figures come out. I think there's much to be supported about trying your own thing - most of us play some kind of house rules ourselves. Rogue Trader - Warhammer 1st Edition allowed you to do these kinds of "make up your own unit". However I saw my brother make up a unit...
