A few X'lanthos concepts

Here is a sheet of 3 different concepts for the X'lanthos I've painted up:

I wanted to explore a direction that is intelligent looking, yet distinctly non-human. Lemme know what you think!

Size of a game/ how many models?

So I've never played Warmachine, but how many models are we talking about on the field for a game like DP? 10? 20? 50? Are there squads? I may just be out of the loop of "skirmish" style gaming, but this is something I'm having a hard time figuring out.

Re: Hard Counter Fix

7. Secret scout sneaks up to tank while everyone is "distracted" and plants a charge on the tank's tread? I REALLY like this action>reaction gamepay that develops. This is kind of how real combat would work, especially on a smaller guerrilla fighting scale like DP. Like if someone throws a grenade, ...

Re: Crazy ideal: what about plastic cut for models?

I can see the advantage this would bring- a low entry cost. In fact, I believe that a much lower entry cost could be a KEY asset Matt could explore in differentiating DP for other wargames in terms of marketing. HOWEVER, I firmly believe that in no way should the quality and detail of the figures be...

Re: THE PRE-PRODUCTION AND PRODUCTION DISCUSSION THREAD

yeah it's actually possible to achieve detail that is very difficult in traditional sculpting with digital tools- i.e. very small, mechanical parts and facial features etc... You can literally "zoom in" in digital sculpting rather than squinting your eyes and going blind lol

Any of this could be 3d printed into an exact physical copy. Obviously some features on the abov...

Re: THE PRE-PRODUCTION AND PRODUCTION DISCUSSION THREAD

I would agree that injection molding would be the best, EXCEPT (and this is a big exception) for the start up cost. Tooling for injection molded parts would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for the wargame to get off its feet -I would imagine Games Workshop owns literally many millions of dolla...

Re: THE PRE-PRODUCTION AND PRODUCTION DISCUSSION THREAD

yeah I agree that a team of concept artists would be necessary for a project of this size. It would be very time consuming for one person to successfully design all the assets required. However, I'm not so sure about the community "voting" on the designs. "Design by committee" in any form usually en...

Concept artists

Hi Matt, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, and I don't mean to solicit, but I was curious if you have begun the process of finding concept artists to work on Dark Potential? I am an aspiring professional concept artist who is also very interested in mini wargaming, and would love to kn...

production

In terms of model making - here's how I see the best way to do it: 1) Approve final pre production designs from the concept design team 2) Model in software like Maya/3Ds Max and Zbrush 3) Print via Shapeways 3D printing services in their highest resolution material - mega cheap for 3D printing, and...

THE PRE-PRODUCTION AND PRODUCTION DISCUSSION THREAD

Hello all- I'm new to post here, but have been following the Dark Potential project for a little while, and want to get involved. I would like to start a thread to have a serious, informed discussion about techniques for pre-production and production of this miniature wargame. To introduce myself, I...
