They do appear to be planning on releasing variant armigers, with either a shooting or a melee focus. One imagines this may also include options for hordemulching. If nothing else, two armigers are as cheap as you will get to fill out a superheavy detch if you cant/wont do a aux or supreeme command ...

The twofold problem is that fluffwise, primaris already are able to ride into battle with their little bros in rhinos and the like. Bullgryns with slab shields and mauls paired with the vexilia defensor get a 2+/3++ and only cost 42 points a bull, plus you can stuff them in cheap transports for express delivery and beam the vexilia in as a custode terminator. (Or just have him run his golden self up alongside the apcs).

Veteran squads are your bread, butter and the kitchen sink. The reason you (sometimes) want a powerfist in an imperial guard squad is that you basically have a dude with 9 abblative wounds able to dish out 2 attacks at str 6, ap -3, for d3 damage. A fair point, while eldar jetbikes with their T4 probably die just fine to hurrycanes, and plague drones with their demon save wont really care about the -1 ap on the salvo launcher, it does have some use against flying multi-wound, multi-unit targets with modest or weak armor and toughness in the 5...

no, I did not. for those you have the hurricane bolters who are considerably better at mulching infantry, flying or not.

Obviously, if you have a salvo launcher and nothing to shoot at that isnt infantry, then the flakburst might as well be what you shoot... but that's hardly its intended purpose.

Agreed, magnetizing expensive models with a variable loadout is always the way to go, never know when a new update or army units makes you wish you had put X instead of Y on your gunboat, plus you never know when you will need to play by wysiwyg

Dont break something you are not sure how (you want) to fix it. Before the codex comes out you wont know if their current loadout will remain illegal or what will be best to turn them into. I would leave them as is untill you have a solid plan for them. :)
