Spore mines ARE useless, but in first place because they give the enemy killpoints and that is just a bad joke...
Even if you agree that they don't (which everyone should 'cause its just stupid they do..) you can only make a real use of them if you have fist round. Then they can really be quite anoying and help the tyranid player controlling the board.

For Shrikes I agree with Olinser. With randing claws they are kind of useless.. but why should you use them that way? Swords, fast shooting (with one of the "heavy" weapons) or double tallons and toxin sacks agains troops. Then they are quite good agains heavy or light infanterie.
Of corse with the problems all the 3wound creatures have..

For gargoyles i also agree to what Olinser said ^^
Toxin and adrenalin ftw

Revengers are nice against shooting armies like imps, tau, or such kind. But exept for that they are kind of crap, 'cause most armies have a power fist in every squat and.. well the usual problem with the 3wound creatures..
just for shooting they are WAY to expensive. Even devour-gants are better and they die from lookin at them..

gargoyles with a fast synapse creature (winged hive tyrant ) rock. In larger numbers they tear monsters and most infanterie apart and they really look amazing!
The other choises are much fun in apo and planet strike, but not very effective in normal games..

I run 2 squads of 5 Raveners with 1 or 2 Trygons. and I love them!
They move as Beasts, so you get your move, fleet and 12" Charge, 5 attacks and Rending with scything talons. they can tie up or kill units well the Trygon follows up. They need cover, but venomthropes can cover that.
mrcoyote (3 months ago):
Hi Matt, hope we will see a troop choice video soon, PLEASE
Olinser (3 months ago):
Uh... what? You can't give Gargoyles toxin sacs? Not only CAN you give them toxin sacs, it's only 1 point per model (so are adrenal glands). So for 2 points a model, bringing them to 8 points each (still a steal), they are S4 on the charge with poison, meaning they reroll to wound against T4 or less!

Also, I don't understand Rending Claws on Shrikes. For only 5 points more per model, you can give them a pair of Boneswords. Power weapons, one wound = leadership on 3d6 or die. The only thing I could possibly see rending being useful on would be vehicles - and we have so many more efficient vehicle killers. Boneswords all they way, baby.
DarkPrinceRaven (3 months ago):
I'd love to see some tactics on dealing with heavily mechanised lists.
fleetofclaw (3 months ago):
You can add Toxin Sacs to Gargoyles, they only cost 1 point, at 8pts a fully upgraded Gargoyle is incredibly effective, especially with a Winged Tyrant following along with Old Adversary.

@Beavis002: Well...... Two box's of hormaguants, and termaguands... then try and get a hq.
Beavis002 (3 months ago):
if me and my younger brother are thinking of starting a tyrrinid army for him i would start off with hormagraunts right?
Ci-walker (3 months ago):
consider the harpy, it is a very fast monstrous creature wich is very flexible as it can shoot reasonably well, ignore armor save and chew light and medium vehicles
superslayer90 (3 months ago):
ORK TACTICA
niner33 (3 months ago):
you should do ork tactica because I just started orks
Infinite-Freedom (3 months ago):
What is your opinion on the Venomthrope?
xraymonx3 (3 months ago):
What is the best deployment for your tyranids army?
Nawor (3 months ago):
Cover the Harpy, you missed it.

Aside from that, have you thought about an entire Warrior army?
Crusherfex (3 months ago):
I'll be honest, I dont think you understand spore mines at all. The way you put it, it sounds like you expect them to do something. No. You put them in a certain place in enemy deployment, next to a far-away objective, or in the dead middle of the board. Your opponent will then move out of the way, because they can't deploy there, and will waste time focus on them and shooting them. If they think spore mines are no threat and ignore them, the spore mines will float farther apart and take up more space. They don't do anything, the blast is a bonus. They just mess with the enemy.
Philamilapeed (3 months ago):
Matt, you siad Gargoyles can't take toxin sacs but in fact you can, it's in their codex entry.
Spacefrisian (3 months ago):
@traifan: what about the comments that asked that?
traifan (3 months ago):
What about harpies?
irendlikecrazy (3 months ago):
Shrikes are amazing. You give them dual boneswords and charge them into a group of terminators and demolish them.

Also, raveners are just as awesome. I always give them rending claws and just make a run move for cover, then assault things like light tanks and any infantry I can reach.
slome-gast (3 months ago):
There we go Matt. Fast Attack. Second upload

Ps: OMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM
jsheehy (3 months ago):
As I mentioned last time, Gargoyles can take adrenal glands and toxin sacs. They are only 1 pt (per model) upgrades, which make them pretty awesome.

Ive never played against Nids
