Wargaming Table

This is a modular war gaming table i made a couple of months ago. Its separated into squares that can be moved and repositioned. My intent is to have a number of these squares as extra so that i can have an almost infinite number of table configurations.
The pieces themselves are made form a plywood base painted with a mix of black paint and sand, then dry brushed with a cheap brown paint i got. I then added fine flock. As far as the tower and houses are concerned they are just foam board with balsa wood for detailing. Liberal use of coarse turf and clump foliage helps.
The trees are something else. They started as a child's wooden puzzle game. I added trees to each of the pieces the bases of which were textured with sand spray painted black and dry brushed brown. again liberal use of coarse turf and clump foliage. The reason i did the trees on the puzzle pieces is so that i could take them off the base board to accommodate a unit moving through the trees. A child's wooden puzzle works great because the pieces are already pre-cut to fit inside the base.

I just added a few more shots of the table in different configurations. Every thing on it removable, from the houses to the trees to the fence sections.

The models pictured are some of my Empire Army. I Have about 3000 points.

Nice design, I'll have to use it for research for my own table!

the hills are wooden blocks with plaster of paris sides. painted with black paint mixed with sand then dry brushed brown, finished with fine turf. and yes the plaster makes them very heavy

I wanted the tree bases to look different from the rest of the open ground.(Open ground fine turf tree bases course turf) Somewhat overgrown leaf litter some what contrast to show where the forest ends and where the open ground begins.

i play WF and W40K and the trees are a little small for the rest of the board. Houses about 6" tall the trees between 3" to 7". i used the woodland scenics trees and they are smaller than i would have liked. this is an older picture after seeing it completed i decided that the ground was too barren and patchy so i went back and applied more flock to give better coverage.

wow that is quite beautiful.
the trees look alittle off to me but the rest far offsets that. are they supposed to be in a marsh? because they look like it.
shaso-oni-okami (Over a year ago):
by half and quarter sized i mean the edges measure 4" by 8.25" and 2" by 8.25" respectively
shaso-oni-okami (Over a year ago):
the outer edge measures 4' by 4' each square is 8.25" square. Some of the squares are half and quarter sized to allow for more options in terrain placement.
Nerd13 (Over a year ago):
nice how big is it
