Why did I expect this video to just be a 10 second clip of Dave saying "Tau" in an extreme close up...

I respect your opinion and you have valid points, but I still have to disagree with you on
the kroot.
For one, I think your understating the uses of outflankers in 6th. 10 to 20 strenght 4 shots at 24" or 20 to 40 strenght 4 shots 12" is nothing to sneeze at. Which is going to force your opponent to reevaluate what his target prioraty is going to be. Also, lets not forget that ending the game with your unints in your opponents deployment zone gives you victory points and Kroot are hard to remove once there in cover.

Ether way, thanks for the Tactica.

@Bothaku you cant do that as they are not battle brothers they cannot benefit from any special rules from each other (targeting relay on necron warriors)

Before even watching this, I have a sneaking suspicion that Ethereals will make an appearance. Don't ask me why, but I just get this weird feeling...

@Twistedphoenix: I agree. I think listbuilding is as much fun as actually playing.

I think there is one tactic you're missing out on with melee units, and indeed Kroot. You use the melee units to hold off their melee units, or to prevent some of their units from shooting.

The intent isn't to kill their units in melee combat, but to let you reduce their effective army. While they may consider melee a key part of the game, a Tau considers any unit in melee as not in the game. If you can lock up 2-3 units in melee with some "throw away" units, you can then outshoot the rest of their army.

As for Kroot, I'm finding them useful in the above roll. However, their real use comes in the other kroot models you can take. Krootox are great for shooting (S7, AP4, 48" rapid fire weapon), albeit a bit expensive. I'm also looking into Kroot Hounds for use with my Kroot. 6 points a model, but WS4, S4 and most importantly initiative 5 makes them seem very deadly in close combat (and I've had several people who have used them verify that).

For a tau player who uses the forgeworld barricuda, why don't you use Tau tetras instead of the pathfinders. They are waaaaaaaayyyyyyy cheaper to feild (50pts base I believe)

With kroot, couldn't you bring a shaper, give the points away for kroot to have a 6 , the put them in jungle/forest for 5 and aegis defence line?
I only have the tau codex that's why I'm not sure if its not aloud.

I want more videos I'm dying to figure out how to bring my pathfinders and firewarriors. >.>
Svelok (7 months ago): - delete
My problem with pathfinders is their price. I'd almost always rather bring more of something else.
Svelok (7 months ago): - delete
@pilky: His point was that with the allies system, there's ALWAYS a better alternative to Kroot.

Best ally Ive used so far is Eldar. Taking Divination powers to TL my fire warriors. Plus making enemy psykers perils themselves to death is always a perk. A new idea I had is to put a Farseer on a bike. Take Cmdr Farsight and his unit of 7 battlesuits. Now take the Farseer and put it in the unit. Still get the 2d6 assault move that way. And could Twin Link all the weapons, fire overwatch at full BS, give the whole unit 4 invuls. Lots of good stuff there.

thats bs how can a hammerhead do everything and the broadside do 1 thing. broadsides get more hammer head shots and can have smart missles. espacially if you have 3 or 2 in a group. broadsides r way better

Hey Owen. Huge Fan. Glad you mentioned the markerlights flub and yet still maintained your message. I'm a big Tau fan and understand some of the problems that such a dated codex is beleaguered with. Super glad you decided to make these videos. Keep em coming.

PS: I could not agree more with your rant (from one of your talk videos) about list tailoring/tactical wargamming. I have often ended up playing the badguy around these parts for espousing essentially the same arguement. "we are armies, if we didn't tailor we wouldn't continue to exist... you're just being stupid otherwise. Your job is to BEAT ME AT ALL COSTS"
