Smurf Colour scheme

Hey all, its been a long, long time since my last post on the home site; I've been glued to the forums for the last month or so. And, this maybe should be on the forums, but no-ones answering me there...

So, wondering if you can help me out. I am about to start a Smurf army as the title suggests (they're Ultramarines to those of you not familiar with that term), but I am stuck on whether or not to paint them up with gold or white. The blue here may seem a little stark on the highlights, but I am planning to make it more subtle like the last pic. Also, I've gone all the way to the trouble of painting a model twice, rather than using bolter and chainsword, so please give me some help. Anyhoo, which do you prefer...?

@Spejaren, I've now added an ultramarine U to the left shoulderpad, and thats made it look loads better.

@WarPetrie, I know, smurfs, but I want to challenge myself and make them look as different as possible as a pose to everyone elses. I was inspired by James Karch's smurfs, that last one is one of his, and I decided I just had to collect smurfs!

Thanks Jimmy, thats pretty helpful. UNfortunately, I haven't been able to get my hands on the dex thus far, this is just a test model. I'll try a light blue and post it up, although I was looking through a white dwarf with marine heralrdy and there's about 20 variants of shoulder trims! So, I'm gonna try them all out...

why dont you goe for ice blue, if you look in SM Codex at the sample pictures therea a sergeant with ice bliue i think hes from the 7th company smurfs and looks really good. if you do gold that means your doing 2nd company smurf and white are 1st company so would have to be all vets and terms.
