actualy,the two close combat weapons maily serve as reminders for the pie-plate-defiler design that you can only use the battlecannon,but sometimes,a pie plate gets very dry and not 'tasty',so the other guns on the defiler may help the defiler not to get bored when he loses his mojo(plus the extra guns make a BERSERKERING GOING BERSERK COMMANDO DEFILER).

one thing i did once was 1 defiler between 2 landraiders. so it was pretty much 13 front and 14 sides and they had ether khorne berserkers in them or termies decked out for close combat and a deamon prince in front and 1 behind it for the cover saves. it was a massive ball of death that pretty much killed everything. it was fun and awesome but people got smart and threw a buch of str 10 and 9 weapons at me..
