“When you get on that surface you can expect a large assortment of bullets and bombs aimed at you so it is vital you get some cover, whether it be a pile of dirt, a drop pod even a comrade’s body, get some cover. After you’ve found that cover wait till there’s a break in the storm of bullets and run at the enemy lines and hopefully nothing will hit you, but I aint making any promises. Now hopefully you’ll be close enough to hit anything if not, don’t worry, the storm ravens will to a general bomb drop on the enemy lines at 14:00 hours, so that’s your chance to gain ground.”
The Blood Angels captain paused before carrying on
“Now you’ll have to make a dash across the last 70 meters and I’m warning you, the enemy will have recovered from the bomb drop and will have gotten back to their foxholes, so just bray to the Holy Emperor you don’t get hit. Now after that you’re on your own in that city, because we can’t get any air support due to anti air guns positioned here, here and here.” Said the captain pointing to the red dots of the map.
“Your mission is to neutralise the guns, and try to destroy as many traitorous heretics as possible. I can assure you that most of you will not get back alive, but remember, you would have died fighting for the Emperor and all of Mankind.”
And with that the captain drew his power sword
“For the Emperor!”
“For the Emperor!” The Blood Angels shouted in return.
Torak walked to the drop pods with the rest of his squad. In the squad was Hector, Heavy bolter: Dom, Bolter and chainsword, Marcus: Bolter, Chuck: Powersword and plasma pistol and Torak: Bolter and Chainsword.
Accompanying them was Cornelius, a Techmarine who was going with them to neutralise the guns.
The 1700 meter drop on the drop pods passed quickly, barely 30 seconds. Torak watched the seconds pass on the drop pods clock.
10 seconds, 9 seconds, 8 seconds, 7 seconds
5 second, 4 seconds, 3 seconds
1 second. The ground shuddered as 20 Drop pods hit the ground, leaving craters where the made an impact. As the doors hissed open enemy fire ricocheted of the crafts. Blood Angels poured out of the Drop pods Bolters, some being hit before they stepped on the soil.
“Remember! Get some cover!”
Yelled the captain over the whizzing of bullets and explosions of mortar. Torak’s squad charged forward from the drop pod, past headless corpses and red gore, past explosions and bullets. They finally dropped behind some rubble.
“Marcus, check how far we are from the enemy.”
Ordered Chuck. Marcus put his head over the debris only to have his head blown to ribbons. As the body slumped back the squad looked at each other, not sure what to say. Torak finally broke the silence
“Well, one down, four to go”
