Thanks! I'd guess maybe 6-8 hours? Something like that.

The thing about the oil washes is that they will be dry to the touch pretty quickly, but they can be "reactivated" with a thinner (turpentine, mineral spirits, etc). So if you want to do an oil wash, then stat painting again (with enamels or acrylics or whatever you use), you could just wait for the wash to dry, then hit it with a coat or two of your favorite varnish. That will seal the oil pigments in place, and now you can paint over it as usual.

How long did it take to finish the model?
You also mentioned that using oils allowed you to work the paint for longer even into the next day , if that is the case how long would you have to wait until you could paint over it.
I used to use enamels many years ago and found using a hair dryer in between coats quite handy.
