I see no reason why Matt Ward would have you pay tons of points for an expensive sniping unit with shorter range, let you deep strike in the enemies turn, only to have them mowed down before they could do anything. If the rule is unclear, let the fluff determine how it should be implemented. Deathmarks shoot first.

Page 36 in the rule book. "In that turns shooting phase, these units can fire (or run)as normal...." you cannot normally shoot in enemy's shooting phase. @zitech you bring them in like that so in your turn they are not deep striking, they can move and shoot and assault as normal instead of deep striking and just shooting/running. They are vulnerable to enemy attacks but that is the price to pay for deep striking early. That is just how I see the rules in my opinion.

Should the Tomb Blade have tested for Morale at the end of the move phase as two of them died???

@Kolonel Kraig: The argument is that "they may shoot or run as normal the turn they arrive"... then they "they may shoot... as normal the turn they arrive". if they may shoot as normal the turn they arrive then they can shoot as normal on that turn, regardless of who's turn it is. This ofcourse is the RAW argument. What should have been done is they come in on your next turn/end of turn but that isn't what is written.

I have to ask...where does it say the Deathmarks can shoot the turn they arrive?

I was under the impression they just had the ability to deep strike in response to an enemy entering from reserves.

Why not allow the deathmarks to phase in at the end of your opponents turn (after charges are declared) this way you can't shoot on there turn, but can move shoot and assault on yours without rolling for reserve. That way it's not incredably overpowered, but still leaves room for strategy (and luck)

I think the way we need to examine this is that, just because the rule may sound stupid, doesn't mean that it should be something else. Too a lot of people the idea of dropping deathmarks is stupid because you are allowing them to be shot at, but lets examine where it might be useful. In a situation where you are fighting a drop pod army your deathmarks will be able to choose where to deploy essentially because so many enemies will arrive from reserve, and it is guaranteed that they can come in unlike normally. Now it doesn't seem so stupid, and we need to remember this is before Necron flyers existed and could phase troops in wherever they wanted.

@RabbiPT: exactly..... you apply the rules as you would "normally" do but in your opponents turn. It was not OP'ed at all.
RabbiPT (8 months ago): - delete
The key phrase here is "...as normal." Deathmarks can not shoot or run during an enemy shooting phase, so they cannot run or shoot.

i'm sorry but a 100% disagree that deathmarks can shoot in the turn they arrive, i do not believe that was the intention for that rule otherwise it would be mentioned in thier codex specificaly.

first time ever i could not see you point of view!!
p.s still love all your stuff though

That's a Tough call on the deathmarks. If your going word for word i think your on the right track. Think about the alternative though why would you want to bring them in on your enemy's turn and then just let them sit there to be fired upon?
