I have a question regarding the scarab swarms and blast templates:

they say that they take twice the ammount of wounds and then instantkill, but dosn't instant killing replace wounds all together?

Also wouldn't wound allocation allow you to place more then 1 wound on a unit that would be instant killed?
Furry-Jedath (4 months ago):
Yay, yet another mechanized Imperial Guard Army ¬¬
UnleashMayhem (5 months ago):
@AngryBogle: Not true, p.63 in the BRB. If you immobilize, it's an auto-hit.
dkespi96 (5 months ago):
did you forget that blasts on swarms count as double wounds so one wound should have taken out two bases
AngryBogle (5 months ago):
In turn 1, those scrabs don't auto hit even though it was immobilized because the Lemen Russ moved 6" during his turn.

Dread-Knight (5 months ago):
are you allowed to put weapon teams on top of those cylinders? It gives them a ridiculous view of the map.
Dread-Knight (5 months ago):
@Redhawk: stand in area cover, or be obscured 50% or more from the gun of the vehicle shooting, or the base of a model shooting.
Redhawk (5 months ago):
how again to you get cover from blast and ordnance
wafavro (5 months ago):
Im sorry but biggest problem with this was when Matt said "I knew he was bringing Mech"

Totally makes the game one sided
Ulysses848 (5 months ago):
@darkned1ight@hotmail.com:I might be a little biased as I am in love with the Necrons but I kinda think the idea that your cheapest and smallest unit can blow up the largest and most intimidating part of your opponents army is frickin' awesome. Call me biased but I LOVE NECRONS!
darkned1ight@hotmail.com (5 months ago):
this reinforces the idea that scarabs are rigged....
irendlikecrazy (5 months ago):
was cam doing the recording on 8:35? it looked a bit choppy
malac50 (5 months ago):
first time i played my scarabs against armour a blood angels land raidge deep stiked then i charged it lowed armour to a 8 got 3 pens and wrecked it 2nd turn
error (5 months ago):
MORE NECRON WHAT WHAT
Hukoseft (5 months ago):
@Spacefrisian: and why not? crossing the diameter of the circle is 24" whereas crossing an arc lessens it to minimal possible of 12"
rich9517 (5 months ago):
matt gw has been giving away free stuff and you didnt notice lol scarb swarm 3wounds and gw give you 4 scarabs for a base i only used 3 (1 per wound) and as you get 3 bases in a box of worriors thats 1 free scarab base per box
DaemonMaster (5 months ago):
Yay necron counter
Spacefrisian (5 months ago):
+24" i mean.
Spacefrisian (5 months ago):
Small note to Matt, you cant make a 1st turn charge with those scarabs as you need to keep a 24" distance while deploying.
Kaika87 (5 months ago):
@Kaika87: It seems I also lost track of a different point as well that I'll tie up the loose end of. When I say you could tailor an army based on knowing the codex you were facing, I'm not saying there's only one good build per codex. However, each codex has things you can expect from its most common builds, ones that fit within the majority. Blood Angels, you can expect assault-heavy infantry elements with feel no pain, for Tyranids you will always see a few monstrous creatures doing something nasty, for Codex: Space Marines, you shouldn't be surprised to see Rhinos and Razorbacks. These are common elements in most codex builds. Knowing these common elements in each codex, one can take a different codex and develop counters for them.
Kaika87 (5 months ago):
@Kaika87: Oh yea, and the icing on the cake that proves my point? Matt won the battle overwhelmingly.
Kaika87 (5 months ago):
@Olinser: I get what you're saying and most times I would have agreed, but this instance was just egregious. He even outright said that his decision to take almost no vehicles was because Cam was facing him with mech IG.

I may have kneejerked a bit saying I could list tailor an army to face down another army just knowing what codex I was facing, but here was what I mean to say. By Matt knowing that Cam was taking Mech IG, he was able to design a Necron list that was atypical from what he's had before, hell this is the first time I've seen him play without even a single Ghost Ark. Meanwhile, the Mech IG list was not tailored to face Matt, it's what I would call a pretty straightforward all-comers list. He made a few unit choices that I wouldn't (I love the Manticore, for instance), but I see nothing about his army that screams that it was designed to take down a specific army.

I'm losing sight of my point so I'll wrap this up. Both players do NOT know what they will be fighting, not exactly. Cam told Matt he'd be playing Mech IG. First thing that comes to my mind is lots of Chimeras, Heavy Support tanks of the players' choice, and a few blob squads for good measure. Lots of anti-vehicle abound, lots of long-range firepower. Matt's almost horde-style Necron list was so jarringly different from anything he'd played before that I'm surprised I'm the only one saying anything about it. What's more, I wouldn't call that Necron list all-comers at all. Primarily, it's weak to dedicated assault with no mindshackle scarabs. Lo and behold, Mech IG tends to be weak in assault, rendering mindshackle scarabs a waste.

And again, he even outright stated in the batrep that "I knew he was bringing Imperial Guard mechanized, so I decided if I bring vehicles they were just going to get shot down turn 1." That's an assumption any experienced player can make about Mech IG. He then goes on to state how he then took no vehicles. That's list tailoring, end of discussion! The fact of the matter is that Matt knew what type of army he would be facing and said in his own batrep that he made changes to his army based on what his opponent was bringing.
Olinser (5 months ago):
@Kaika87, you are completely missing the point of what he is saying. His point is that BOTH SIDES know what army the other is playing. Knowing what you are facing and how to build an army to counter it is an essential part of 40k. Each army has at least 2 (sometimes more) viable lists, with very different counters.

What you are basically complaining about is that they are on even footing - BOTH know what they are fighting. What you want is for Matt to go in blind while his challenger knows exactly what he is facing - not exactly an even fight there chum.
rdubayoo (5 months ago):
...what's with that beeping in the background?
MarneusCalgar123 (5 months ago):
didn't you have to roll a bunch of terrain tests on turn 1,matt? Maybe I missed them.
