Briansun1 (11 weeks ago):
if you like star trek try the game star trek online
thypitty5 (11 weeks ago):
@sirlynchmob: i remember when i made my original suggestion that rail guns might be at the end of the 21st century rail guns would be a common anti tank wepion
DaemonMaster (12 weeks ago):
are you just trying to show off that big Brain of yours
sirlynchmob (12 weeks ago):
@thypitty5: Dr. Michio Kaku did a episode on sci fi science about force fields. Its a great show and he does some impressive stuff, like figuring out how to make a lightsaber but basically if a ship can travel between the systems you can shoot all the particles you want at that ship and it won't do a thing to it. The rail gun can still be effective against the people inside of it, or any secondary vehicles they bring.
thypitty5 (12 weeks ago):
@sirlynchmob: the thing is in the fluf there is no hyperdrives but use the worm hole system and also stuctures will give in to a pounding and a warship would have a large likelihood of having multiple railguns (optamaly 100-200 with a optimal projectile size of 3m)
just an idea
thypitty5 (12 weeks ago):
@MartinOtten: one problem is that nasa uses nuclear motors on spacecraft to places like mars its just that nuclear engens if used in atmosphere it would irradiate the ecosystem clouds ect. but nuclear engens is a very practical idea (would solve a small part of the nuclear waste problem) just not in atmosphere and low earth orbit
This was not to make no offence just were it would probebly work
blademeister (12 weeks ago):
Cool video Matt! Looking forward to this game! Science is so intriguing. I'm only in high school but physics is one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken! I look forward to seeing this game evolve, and eventually playing it!
Raggbur (12 weeks ago):
Love the evolution of the scientific view on dark potential energy, just 1700-now all over again.

Btw, as a true Trekkie, I don't really agree about that ST doesn't contain any true science. There's this book that theorises about the possibility of replicators, transporters,.. by Lawrence Krauss
ZaLurker (12 weeks ago):
In the darj future of mid 21st centurt...there is only war

No wait that sounds familiar...
+1
MartinOtten (12 weeks ago):
I suspect that the only way we will travel to mars in the next 50 years, is by the use of nuclear rocket engines, which are more fuel efficent than normal rocket engines, and would potentially cut a 6 month trip to mars in half, the only real life draw back is getting people to support nuclear rockets.

I also think withing the next 50 years we will have developed the first cold fusion reactor. and this will be used to power the first ships to explore the outer planets
MartinOtten (12 weeks ago):
here is the like for human ear grown on a mouse.

irendlikecrazy (12 weeks ago):
MATT! i noticed a lot of the Necron models for sale in the shophave no image. Why dont you upload pictures of the models in your army?
lochlan-lennox (12 weeks ago):
carbon nanno weave instead of tubes
lochlan-lennox (12 weeks ago):
just an idea
lochlan-lennox (12 weeks ago):
carbon nanno tubes woven together would make stong and light armour/protective clothing
BigBoss66 (12 weeks ago):
@destuctir: That's not quite true how you described a railgun. It uses the fact that charged particle (electrons in this case) experience a force perpendicular to the electric and magnetic field vectors (search right hand palm rule). The rail gun works by having a current travel down one rail, across a conductive projective to a parallel rail. The conductive projectile undergoes a force which causes it to fire out the rails at super sonic velocity.
sirlynchmob (3 months ago):
I really couldn't see rail guns being useful against interstellar space ships. If your already traveling near or faster than the speed of light, every particle in space would hit like it was fired from a rail gun. So if you can travel between systems, odds are your armor would protect you from particles, rail guns, and nukes.
sirlynchmob (3 months ago):
@tishr probably the only reason to use a nuke in space would be the EMP blast.
Tishr (3 months ago):
@thypitty5: That's true to a degree a point detonation of a nuclear warhead would still rip a fairly sizable hole in a opposing ship not to mention the Component and structural damage of the blast wave running through the hull and skeleton itself.
Aza83 (3 months ago):
Dave - best way to open a banana is to squeeze the tip on the other end, rather than trying to rip the top open. Think this is also how gorillas do it.
DangerDude (3 months ago):
they do use replicators for everything, Power supply and raw mats are the issues and the reason it is used for mostly normal stuff. A game I think you would love Matt is Birth of the Federation. And star trek is not about science... its about people.
generalguy (3 months ago):
megaman 2 was the year 200X
thypitty5 (3 months ago):
@destuctir: the thing is is becuse railguns do not require gunpowder or explosives to propel their payload people think that nukes would best choice but nukes require an atmosphere for the heat to be transmitted and shock waves are the other way nukes cause so much damage but no atmosphere there are no ripples in the air but if detonated in space the damage is severely reduced
but even a magnet the size of a fingernail can cause lethal damage due to speeds created far exedes that of guns with gunpowder propelent (DO NOT CORRECT MY SPELLING I HAVE DISLEXYA) and it can be just rails of super neodymium magnets with can have the ammo simply placed between the magnetic north and south rails
953superdude (3 months ago):
In science class I watched a video about technology to Mars. They talked about skin tight suits coupled with a system of web-like threads covering the humans body to have less of an effect of having the hop around, you can walk around. Also, they can use tools better outside in space (Think of Modern space suits like an inflated football). Also, the entire ship wouldn't need to spin, they could have a spinning exersize room which they would only need to use for 2 hours an Earth day.
