Frisket paper is what you are looking for Matt. This is lightly tacky paper that you can cut custom stencils for. Commonly used in Airbrushing community.

i think the light masking tape one was the best

looks good to me i like the tiger stripes might do that on my dark elder when i start them

i think the ezist way to get something painted really good at mini-war gaming would be to leave the primed model on Kris desk lol

i like the parts were Kris was spying on you

You can use your cardboard stencil to make masking tape stencils to conform to the surface, that's what Id try

for a quick glow effect at the end of my thunder hammers I use light blue mixed with white and dry brush it... then dry brush white... that may help

Try painting a brighter blue in all of the recesses to make the areas look glowy. All the little runes help break up the panels when painted nice and bright

i myself find freehanding really difficult
BountyHunter (Over a year ago): - delete
i think that stencil still looked great!
Lynny97 (Over a year ago): - delete
@sdrartys: I did that and the glue won't hold anymore
sdrartys (Over a year ago): - delete
Try painting before assembly you'll find you can spray and stencil alot easier that way.
wanklesmissfits (Over a year ago): - delete
I was thinking why couldn'tyou make a stencle out of masking tgape and liquid masking
steo 1 lay down several layers of liquid masking and let dry
step 2 place masking tape over prept area and cut out your stencle.
step 3 paint

Use an oil based mineral wash Les teaches on his YouTube channel. You can completely avoid the quick drying mess that nullen oil leaves. You have hours to take the wash off. Give it a shot. This is REALLY worth the trouble. I'll never use a GW wash again.

Try tapeing your stencil down instead of holding it.

i like the pockadot. i would go further and paint the tiny ones near the raised bit aswell
destuctir (Over a year ago): - delete
ow never mind. i think i might steal your design its pretty ggod
Marshal-Gotan (Over a year ago): - delete
change the polka-dot one to have lightning/ energy effect across the darker plates going into a very light blue (ice blue) or white where you did the 'dots'
destuctir (Over a year ago): - delete
try this

spray black all over
spray dark grey on it quickly
spray light grey on the top half quickly
dust the top with white
spray it your blue
put a blue glaze on it

lots of spraying but with the right paint it stays thin and the whole things is gradually turning brighter going up. not sure if will work on A) a 2d modle like that and B) when you then respray it blue. but if your still stuck try it out
JBentley (Over a year ago): - delete
Try using tape to outline your freehand work to give it better boundaries.
