I was under the impression that cover saves are calculated on a model by model basis and if he was 25% covered he gets a cover save, so it doesn't matter if half the unit is covered, the other half wont get it. The idea behind focus fire is to avoid allocating onto closest models that may be in cover. So regardless of who is closest, the shots only go on the models without a cover save you specified when declaring to focus fire.

Well the only thing I noticed that was sort of wrong was the close combat. The genestealers should not have gone first. The hive tyrant is a monstrous creature which means he has the hammer of wraith special rule. That mean he would have got a single attack at initiative 10 with his base strength which could have penetrated the rear armour and destroyed the vehicle. Good stuff guys, keep up your good work

Hey Matt, your Hive Tyrant should have made a Hammer of Wrath attack against the tank when you charged in. P.37 Rulebook.

Oh and when you charged the vehicle with your Genestealers and Hive Tyrant,... You should have done the Hive Tyrant's "Hammer of Wrath" attack first b/c it goes at Initiative 10.

all vehicles now explode at S4 for EVERY vehicle including open topped. The only exception being ork trukks as the ramshackle in the codex says S3

Ah yes!!! no more silly "conga lines". That has always been a blatent abuse of the basic game rules and only used by jack-asses. I'm so glad they did away with that!

I'm really liking these little mini-battles. Been reading the new rules voraciously, but it definitely helps seeing some of these scenarios performed before I get into a battle of my own.

No 50% in cover rules. If you do not focus fire to the one outside of cover then you apply the saves from the nearest model regardless what they are.

When taking casualties, if there is no "closest" model, then it is randomized, not chosen by the player

For tank shocking its not the hull, but the model "when it comes into contact" so if the deffrolla touched the genestealers they would have been hit.
It's the same as last edition, however now with deffrolla i think you can measure from it (for shooting distance and disembark)

@Bravewolf: Um, you get to reroll charge ranges. Either one or both dice. So you've got decent chances to charge like 9" or something awesome.

@Todda - I think what Matt meant was that the genestealers who'd die first (ie, closest) if targeted without focus-firing are in cover (25% rather than 50%) so the squad would get the benefit (of the first models to be allocated wounds getting the saves).
