Okay, so last weekend I went down to the local 40k shop (the tin soldier) and was going to meet up with someone there to play my third practice game (I have been into 40k for months, but have only found time for three games!) and we had a game: my space marines vs his orks. He gave me the advantage, letting me go first, telling me his tactics, but I had a surprise for him.

He was winning by a little bit, but I was going to deep strike with my ten man assault marine squad just behind his forces, and I upgraded them as much as possible (I relied on them to win me the game). Now, earlier on in my turn I rapid fired some gretchin. They were reduced from a 25 man squad to a 2 man squad in 3 turns, and were running away.

My deep strike assault marines scattered by 5 inches, and guess where they landed? ON THE BLOODY GRETCHIN!!! I rolled for deep strike mishap, and the entire squad was dead. Removed. Kaput. We had a laugh about it, but I lost the game...

PS that would be a really good tactic for killing deep strike units. spread out your guys so they take up as much space as possible before they enter, so if they scatter, they have a chance of dying before they even reach the battlefield!
