You know what I find really fun... riding around in a chimera with a primaris psyker. You could stick this guy in a group of veterans so you would have 3 plasmas (2 plasmas 1 meltagun) and his psychic attack with is 2d6 assault hits, I can't remember the rest but it is really good.

At the moment I'm not really going to be playing any close-quarters combat heavy armies - Tyranids are less close-quarters combat heavy and more SLASH SLASH KILL BITE SLASH, so having some CC specialists isn't going to make much of a difference I don't think xD

I did think about the Lord Commissar.. might stick him in for my 1750 point army.

The Lord Commissars big problem is that he is an IC. So he has to move up into close combat and your opponent can strike at him directly. Even worse, if non of his models is with the LordC solely in contact (meaning with the LordCommissar and an other model) he can choose whether to hit him or not. If he positions his guys fairly intelligent that is not too hard. So what happened to me on several occasions: The opponent lets him life in his assault phase (so the conscripts stay locked in battle and I can't shoot at his squad) then in my phase he finishes of the Commissar, which is tbh not that difficult. With out his support the conscripts fail the check and will either flee or be destroyed.
Now I'm not saying he's a bad choice, you simply have to keep that in mind. If you use him, give him the camo cloak, because he transfers the bonus onto his squad.

Rough riders are great as counters.

I was thinking Lord Commissar who is and independent character and I guess it is a bit pricey, you could even just go for a 5 man group of roughriders.

@BillyBob4000: Conscripts are pretty pricey actually - 80 points for the base 20, and 4 points for each extra model up to 50. 45 points for the Ministronum Priest, and Conscripts can't have commissars D: just meatwall, I suppose. It's an idea though!

I just noticed that you don't have a counter-assault units. For this you could simply go for a huge group of conscripts with a priest and commissar. The priest is for re-rolling, and the commissar for summary excecution. My friend has my codex so I don't know the points but it must be around 100 points. Add a barebones leman russ and your good for a 1750 point battle

@Dies-Irae: The main reason I haven't bothered with meltas (as of yet, anyway) is cos I'm mainly going to be playing against my friends - who have Nids and Tau. Once I start playing against others I'll probably mix things up a bit.

Yeah, probably gonna go for a Commissar with the two infantry squads. Need to give him a whip...

Personally I'm not a big fan of the Master of ordnance, as ,from my experience, he rarely hits (unless you play against hordes of ork or nids).

Maybe switch the plasmaguns of one veteran squad for meltagun, to deal with heavy enemy tanks. So for you have hardly anything to deal with a landraider or and AV14 tank.

It might also be worth thinking of adding a Commissar tho one of the infantry squad, that if you put them together, they don't run that easily.

But all in all that list is pretty solid and should stand a good chance against most things.

@BillyBob4000: Yeah, I'm not ingratiated with ratlings - don't really want any space hobbits in my army xD Probably could do with some more diversity, though.

maybe take 4 Ratlings for forty points or 3 I can't remember the points but for what they are worth they can force the enemy to take a pinning test, and are super annoying. Keep in mind that they can infiltrate and they have stealth (+2 to cover save), and you also seem to be lacking diversity!

Maybe switch the three heavy weapons teams to lascannons and trade out the three scout sentinels for a hellhound with a multi-melta! Works for me
