Hey Matt,
Great to hear you got your stuff back - I'm a software engineer in my work day so I'm gonna definitely back what some of the other guys are saying about making an offsite backup in addition to your RAID setup. (just imaging if the place your server was located in went up in flames)

The Backup gem makes it amazingly easy to do remote backups to just about anywhere you want (Amazon S3, FTP, etc...). Search Google for "github backup" and it should be the first result (meskyanichi/backup)

If you ever want an opinion on anything web server related feel free to send me an email I'm happy to lend a hand.

Some hefty problems, lots of the comments are right. Try to minimize single points of failure.
- redundant power
- redundant disk (raid)
- backup (use software that can backup on line databases
- thought about a cluster?

any way, enough of a computer nerds ramblings.

O.o Wow... lucky. Seriously, I would have been so peeved if you guys had shut down. You love this hobby, and providing grounds for your fans to game, collect, and gather information. Plus, I currently live within 30 minutes of the only GW in Michigan... and getting ready to move elsewhere in the state means your going to be basically my only source of Paints and Minis.

Am I to understand that you are hosting miniwargaming.com on a single computer? This seems like a pretty archaic setup for 2012. Matt I highly suggest you look into a so-called "cloud" hosting solution like Amazon Web Services or Windows Azure. Seeing as that this site is your livelihood it seems to me that quality hosting would be a high priority for you.
