I just started my Space Marine army last week and I wanted to create my own chapter, but I kept finding myself at the Hawk Lords theme. So I check around online for a while and I couldn't find a single Hawk Lords army that did them any justice (paint wise). So I was really excited about getting this army built and into the paint shop. So far I'm very pleased. I haven't painted Space Marines in about 4 years, and I've gotten leaps and bounds better in the painting department over the last year, plus I have been seeing all the freehand opportunities that Space Marine armor presents and I had never tried freehand before, so I thought this would be a fun project and give me enough freehand practice to tackle a few bigger projects I have waiting around... comments are greatly appreciated! and I'd love to answer any questions you have. I also have a home made terrain collection. Let me know if you're interested in seeing them. there are quite a few pics and I don't wanna upload them for no reason. thanks again guys!

FOR THE EMPEROR!!!

I love the "dat ass" face on the scout marine, even if it is (I assume) unintentional.
5/5

i think the shine actually looks good on the models... i mean he did say he used 4 ULTRA WHITE BULBS soooo it tends to happen... the paint job is great, don't hate on it because of the shine.

well painted though i suggest using a matt varnish next time, u get a bit to much glare otherwise

fab painting though

very nice look to them and love the chapter name hawk lords. i wouldn't worry bout the shine marines are clean. im currently working on a marine chapter off my own, and a guard regiment.

The shiny is ok, a little much, but I think it works. Wash the scouts face with Ogryn Flesh, then re-layer the previous color, it will look much better.

i think you should go with a mate varnish

thanks for the tip on the back pack, i was pissed when it happened, my friend bought a necrons warriors box about a month ago that had NO BASES! BS! i used gloss varnish, but it looks much better in person. It's only that shiny cause I have 4 Ultra White bulbs for lighting in my photo studio to show detail, so I can't really get rid of the shine, but i like it. their armor looks polished, and i don't know if you know any marines, but their shit shines! lol. I finished my dreadnought last night and i did what you were saying about shaking my hand a little bit and it really solved that issue. i also painted my first freehand imperial aquilla on my dreadnought.... awesome. will post pics of the Dreadnought after this weekend, I only have access to the photo studio on the weekends.

a little sloppy on the free hand but hey, who cares!
drown out that shine please almost killed my eyes. Try a very light drybrush of terracotta and wash in devlan mud. or grave yard earth.
hope to see your terrain, too!

you remind me of myself honestly... i started warhammer probably 8 years ago.. but painting wasn't my strong side... i just started warhammer 40k like 4 months ago and my painting skill has improved ten fold... plus i wanted to start my own chapter as well.. i love the colors 5/5

interesting chapter did you use a gloss varnish for the sealer? they look shiny. for the wrighting on the sholder pads instead of a strait like let your hand shake alittle so it looks like writting. Oh and for the marines back pack...I had the same problem you could of taken the bo back to your GW store and they would of given you new backpacks for free. if you get another default box then i would traid it in. ive seen 3 boxes haing the same problem at the same store when i got mine replaced
