I have to say both SignChapter23647 and SteelShadow07 below me have 2 great ideas.

Back story and artwork and books etc would be a great way to help fund the game. Also having the rules online allows for updates and from what I've seen one of the main issues with GM games is they don't update and balance things often enough, being online would allow for Errata's much more often (look at D&D 3.5 edition and their errata's that appear in the online SRD).
Desmondtheredx (10 months ago):
Without Good tools one would not be able to achieve some kind of success. Ie. your computers. You would be able to use newer software, render vids faster, etc.
ryno125 (10 months ago):
I say you make a mini out of metal to start off with and only make 100 if they sell you know that people are willing to buy them and you could go from there.
unxpekted22 (10 months ago):
A lot of competition for good looking miniatures right now. You guys would have to pay a lot of attention to your sculpts I think. Bad models could put an end to a game even if it has good rules, seeing as thats half the hobby of table top wargaming. I'm sure you realize this, but just saying it anyways.
leute (10 months ago):
matt just wanted to let u know if you are looking for a painting and an assembling commission job my painting club can do it for a nice price and i hope u can reply to this on your next vlog thx oh and also the name of the club is purple cup painters and we are located in pittsburgh pa and we are on facebook just in case u wanna check on there. PS happy wargaming

12 months till you think you'll have enogh income? And you see a need to accelerate it? Trust me, you'll need that time to develope a worthwile gamesystem (and some factionlists that are diverse and somewhat balanced). Testing new things, balaincing and letting ideas mature in your head, takes a lot of time. (Do you have that much time to play your game?) I cannot se a future for the game if it doesn't "push the envelope" at least a little bit.
baka (10 months ago):
*A continuation since somehow the submit got pressed mid sentence.

Anyway, you could post that you wanted to make this first miniature but needed to sell X number of preorders in order for it to happen. Then people could directly support the game and get a miniature out of it. I would even possibly put a bar graph showing the number of preorders as a way to generate excitement for the miniature. Perhaps you could even look into doing RPG type rules in the Dark Potential universe as a way to get people playing in the universe and buying the first run miniatures and as a way to progress the story and the rule set to the different levels(RPG,Skirmish,40k Scale Battles).
baka (10 months ago):
Hi Matt,
I really enjoy your videos and website.

I had an idea to get some funding for Dark Potential and you touched on it a little in this video.

What if you worked with concept artist to come up with a design for a character to become the first miniature. From that design you could look into someone to sculpt and make the miniature and then post something on the website saying 'we want to make this
blightboy (10 months ago):
I was wondering if you know how competitive the cryx are for warmachine, also what is the overall feel of the army?
TedRockson1987 (10 months ago):
I just joined the vault and wanted to say how much i enjoy mini wargaming, its a great site with good CLEAN material.Keep up the good work.
Stay hard and dry!
Brutii11 (10 months ago):
Hey Matt, I'm really enjoying the walk and talks so far. They are a great thing to have on in the background while I work etc.
I was wondering whether you get many cheaters at MWG. Obviously not the regular guys who appear on the videos (although Joe looks a bit shifty sometimes...), but people who come in for a game and measure inaccurately or fiddle dice rolls when they think you are not looking. How do you deal with such people? The reason I ask is that there is one such guy in my local gaming group, and despite him cheating occasionally, we let it slide because he's not an escecially gifted player.
kayakalot (10 months ago):
What do you think of Forgeworld
kayakalot (10 months ago):
good idea i'd buy the dvd
hydra66 (10 months ago):
you should talk to beasts of war A deal where you offer customers an option to subscribe to both BOW and MWG vaults and get 20% off would be attractive and increases exposure as people who visit your site learn about BOW and vice versa
troxler53 (10 months ago):
I'd like to see maybe a watch and talk with a guest
like dave, joe, or that epic-duck guy as you both talk about topics like your business or wargames or other topics. Keeping it semi-serious though as a casual discution.

What are your thoughts on maybe doing that?

And sorry about not remembering his name.
lionfireva (10 months ago):
This is already sounding better than Infinity and Warpath. Seriously.
MarinesofChaos (10 months ago):
The DVD idea is great i would defenitly buy one plus on top of that have like a donation box on the website or something I would donate
shazO-the-drunken-xv8 (10 months ago):
ask evryone for a few dollars, i bet alot of people would donate.

i know i would

p.s. you could also use mike's "ibot" model as a salvager drone or something to save money
Todda (10 months ago):
I know a company that makes 15mm historical miniatures and they have a pretty good set-up. The get the models on a ring mold. They have the artist make a base model, then they make several variations off that one model, including different posses and equipment. They do small runs for very cheap. I am assuming they can do larger models and different ones and have the artist capable of making almost any model if you have some artwork to base it on. I'm not sure if they make the molds themselves, but this small place has thousands of molds and each one (at 15mm) is basically a full unit of 30 men on a ring. They do cannons and such too on some of these rings. I can not imagine the prices are anywhere near that high. I can ask the owner (I just talked to him today too... bummer).

Play-testing videos sounds cool. I would not recommend you use GW models or they might sick their lawyers after you.

I like that you are making the rules free. I have always complained about GW charging so much for the rules... then charging a ton for the models.

Now I have a big question... What scale are you looking for? Are you starting with just troops models and small armies of 10+ models, then maybe expanding to unit rules and vehicles, then to larger stuff and big armies... as the models line increases? Also how common are really powerful advanced weapons going to be, or are most battles going to be dealing with melee weapons and a few guns hear and there? There is so much talk on the board, but really nobody knows the scale of the game or what technologies are actually available.
saltinerunner45 (10 months ago):
i agree with sgasheppard, but you could do other things in addition to shirts. i dont think this would be a very expensive way to make money, and it would also work as free advertising lol
another idea that i had (i dont think your at this point yet though) is to allow people to "pre-order" bits of the game when you start to produce it. video game company's do this all the time by charging say 1.25 or 1.5 times the normal price and if they pay you could send out something like a "collectors edition" which could contain something simple like exclusive artwork (perhaps just sketches you and whoever are working on now, that way we can see where things came from as well as being free to you) or some other item that is related to dark potential but nothing like models. just an idea.

BewareOfTom (10 months ago):
make an "unleash the vault" dvd set that puts a few vids on dvd's for sale (make it more expensive than membership though)
SignChapter23647 (10 months ago):
You could also create back story's and books to get more money.
SteelShadow07 (10 months ago):
Cant wait to start discussing game mechanics.

Much prefer Resin over Metal.

I don't know about other people but I would pay for some insider dvds to help support Dark Potential.

I think having Codex and Rules online are a great marketing potential. People will be able to proxy figures, find out they love multiple factions, and end up buying more miniatures. Not to mention being able to UPDATE a Codex more than once a Decade (which might get more of those miniatures sold *cough*Tau*cough*Necron*)
willhman (10 months ago):
and really dont do alot of metal plz
