I think that measuring from closest to furthest is a bad idea. In real life you dont try to hit the farthest guy you hit the one that that woul be a major loss i.e sgt or heavy weapons. Or you would aim for the closest. So i think it should be front guy to front guy.

It sounds like you are evaluating suppressing fire as an attack and it's not, it's more of a combat tactic to force your opponent to adjust his strategy and it seems to be doing just that. You really shouldn't evaluate it compared to an attack mechanic.

what if the range of the suppressive fire reduces the size of the template by one inch for every range increment beyond the first

gravity mines should minus 25=50 % less distance weapons while anti gravity increase by 25-50%

Matt, when a unit starts their turn under cover fire, what happens if the player who owns the squad moves a vehicle in front of the enemies Line of Fire and blocks the suppression, THEN the squad that was under suppression takes an action. Do they still get hit, or does the vehicle block the shots?

Some heavy weapons should have better supressive fire (lmg, mini-guns ect.) than other.
