The animals NEED a new name!!!!!!!
Shadowvail (12 weeks ago):
Mathew, the whole highway gates sounds almost exactly like the Mass Effect story line. I've read all the novels and 100% achievements on both 1 and 2. I love the story and science behind the game. Basically, the humans find these Mass Effect gates after uncovering ancient ruins on the surface of mars. The race was called the Protheans. The race had randomly disappeared in history, but there had been a ton of evidence of their existence. Obviously, we find later in the story that the Reapers had wiped them out of existence. But they left behind the conduits that allowed the main characters to figure this out. My point being, the whole highway warp gate being eft behind my an ancient non human race has already been done, and quite nicely.

nice science lesson matt
miniwargaming2 (3 months ago):
Didn't you say the humans found temples and ruin. What if the z'lanthos had been to earth really early in our history at around about the same time as the ancient Egyptians and were created the things such as the pyramids and the coliseum and the sphinx ect. And this would explain the highway near earth.
crazydragon (3 months ago):
matt something i thaught of based on army makinng I think that it might be a good idea to have leaders that choose how many squads you can bring like one leader lets you bring 4 squads and three solos and if you bring another leader you can bring 4more squads and 3 more solos so if you have 100 points or how much you have it could make it harder to bring huge numbers of squads

Hey Matt, on the news this morning there was a part about a new planet that was exaclty like Earth, but was 4x larger and had three suns. It is able to support life, with could be relevant with the colonised worlds?
pier7765 (3 months ago):
Hey Matt., I didnt read all the comments so I hope this hasnt been addressed already. I just watched the factions video and you mentioned the Hossmann faction being its own group. my impression from the first video was that you did not want the Hossmann gene to give rise to terminator like robots and be more of an interface. Because of this, I was thinking it would be cool if the Hossmann faction was presented as a group of very intelligent people such as mechanical engineers and such who salvaged robotic technology and attached the Hossmann gene as a way to avoid contact with the virus, kind of like robot errand boys. the faction itself could then consist of certain human overlords/controlers/ whatever models that gave substantial boosts to the Hossmann robots. this would be a way to balance this faction against all others by choosing overlords with different perks, also it keeps the faction from being overwhelming in the gameplay because if the overlord bites it the boost is lost so the Hossmann faction always has to balance defense of the oveerlord with using the powerful boosts for attack.

always like a bit of dark potential,
since nobody really knows that much about anything, everything is possible.
in games the point is fun.
i think that dark potential units should be really customisable.
there are four general flavours, robots, humans, monsters and aliens.
cool
the humans are split corp/bandit
animals are split predator/herbivore
aliens are split over the psychic link/ burnout
robots are split by central processor/ self-reprogrammers.

i would definitely play as an animal faction shepherd that was carnivorous.
sometimes we would ally with the robos but we would fight them for territory.

some of our animals have eaten dark elements and can get hot and heavy to get the meat out of the cans.

if we can get enough heavy cats together in one place we can open a wormhole and get new planet to run around on.

if we go down there and suck out some of those robos brains then we can join up with the other packs and run wild.

i have to take this alternate-iron back to my shepherd now, the pack is calling...
ORCMASTER (3 months ago):
What if you can create your own "army" where you for example got both humans and xlanthos in an alliance, so you can use both kinds of units in your army.
warchirf (3 months ago):
perhaps the mysterious alien race begun their 'terra forming' on nowdays earth just before their demise. so their automated terraforming project continued, and life evolved on their own. and since the mysterious aliens fall, the highway remains to this new development which we now know as 'earth'.

or, to explain the mysterious alien races compatability with our needs can be that earth is a testing ground - a plantery biological experiment to create intelegent life (to their standings). in a deperate attempt to succeed in this experiment, the alien biologists begun to experiment on their own genes and DNA. adbucting select primates, as they seemed most advnaced metaly and would be able to withstand the 'treatment' the mysterious alien race messed with the DNA. shroty afterards (galacticly speaking), primates began to show signs of advanced intellect and a child-like curiosity.

success as it may be the alien project had to close as other pressing matters needed their attention. they were then never heard from again.

warchirf (3 months ago):
when you talk about the "badtits" i imagine brocken human societies adapting to their environment. living with what they find, recycling what was left, and fightin between themselvs for control over areas which they value (such as resourses). they do not fight over their ideologies, as the need to survive outways their need to philosophise. of course, this may not be the case in all areas, where some "bandit" societies have grown to such a degree that they assimilate and begin to threaten more advanced factions/races. societies like this make war overpower and control of comodities.

so to be frank, the "bandit" factions can have a human social evolution flair to it. as ive explained above, some factions are primative to the point of tribal societies (still with their understnadin of the world and minimal technology (ie, technology needed to survive on) all the way up to todays society of commodity worship. differnt values, differnt needs fuel their human spirit to battle and their need to survive.

so the "bandits" should simply be called the Remnant. there is no collective, no common entity - but to centralise them as a faction, 'the Remnant' captures that feeling.
warchirf (3 months ago):
Had to pause here [29:00] coz I have to agree. Having an infinite faction possibility is an excellent idea as it can give the gaming enthusiast some room to be creative.
But with the diversity you seek you may need to consider the players%u2019 options to be unique with their factions. For example, imperial guard is diverse, but the %u2018army book%u2019 covers the whole thing. Who%u2019s to say the 567th awesome battalion cannot gain access to Imperial armour, or how the 934th regiment, conscripted from the moon of Dinginess can have meltas or plasmas.
I know this makes the game work, but how about this: you have %u2018pre-made%u2019 factions with their unique technologies and units etc, but then you give the player options to create their own factions by denying certain technologies/units but offering them a selection of others. These technologies/equipment/units don%u2019t have to be substantial, only big enough to offer the sense of diversity. Take my example: a pre-made %u201Cbandit%u201D faction on the planet X which was home to a research facility which experimented in multi-dimensional jumps %u2013 essentially: teleportation. Brainy %u2018bandits%u2019 have discovered and improved on the technology hoping it would give them an advantage over other bandit, alien or human factions on their world.
So this faction has access to this piece of technology and would thus be in the assumed army book. However, if I were to conjure another bandit faction from another planet, then they may not have access to that piece of technology. So to encourage diversity, the army book for %u2018bandits%u2019 could have a core list of units/technology/equipment but offer purchasable access to other equipment/units/technology. Thus the player can build from a core their own faction %u2013 almost like the enthusiast gamer creating their own army book (kind%u2019ve like a RPG feel %u2013 creating one%u2019s own character etc .. lol)
This idea is rather raw and very much unrefined but I hope you can see where I%u2019m going with this haha.
devil-rath (3 months ago):
what if the bandits are just hungry rather than greedy thieves... they steal to survive rather than for material gain.
devil-rath (3 months ago):
Matt i know you probably will not see this comment but i want you to know that i will be next to you guys till the end of the business and or my days... you guys got me into Warhammer and i appreciate that.
ribblerawr (3 months ago):
matt, if i was you i'de stick to wargaming and leave science to the scientists. you clearly have only touched the surface of known physics and are bullshitting your way to the conclusion you desire.
kayakalot (3 months ago):
perhaps you could make mini's to raise money for the long term
953superdude (3 months ago):
The whole lowering/raising weight thing reminds me of how the Tau Empire artificially lowers the weight of their guns, jet packs, ect. so they can actually hold them.
GreyknightBob (3 months ago):
@destuctir You are correct, Einstein has yet to be proven wrong in his theory. Also Matt I just wanted to add scientists work very hard when they submit something as a theory. For something to be taken seriously among the scientific community it does need to have quite a large amount of actual science backing it up. I'm just trying to say it sounded like you were bashing scientists a bit in your video and their work? Maybe I am completely incorrect and that is not what you meant at all. Your videos are awesome and Dark Potential sounds like it could really take off, maybe even a tech faction of the humans would be possible? Few units but very elite in their abilities perhaps?
GreyknightBob (3 months ago):
Wow Matt is religious? I would never have guessed.
RoberttheWise (3 months ago):
You could do the Bandit/Corporation dualism as Individualism/Colectivism dualism. On that point you can also throu something religios into Bandits. Something like modern satanism or the Sith-code but only very slightly and unformal. And the Corpses can be colectivistic but entirely atheistic/agnostic. That would be a diversion from the usual standart of zealous colectivistic religious fraction.
TauofMontKa (3 months ago):
Plus another idea for the highways is that they work in a similar way to what you said. I love the idea of yours that certain emissions of Dark Energy are required to open the highways but it's how the highways work that peaks my interest.
While you were speaking I remembered a show that described that the universe is like a carpet or foam. The heavier the objects mass the bigger the dent in the foam/carpet it makes which in turn makes it's gravity well larger. Now, here's where things get a little werid. If an object has a high enough mass it can break through the floor of the universe and out of it. Maybe thats how the highways work, they create a large amount mass at a single point tearing a hole into the universe and allowing travel through the highway to another planet.
TauofMontKa (3 months ago):
29:02 What you just said Matt sparked something there.
How about, instead of having set types of squads (if that's what you're planning) for Bandits etc. Why not just make human squads and then go qild with options?
You can have 3 squads of 10 humans say and each is entirely unique, one may have snipers, the other may have machiine guns and heavy armour and so on.
Just an idea I'm throwing out
destuctir (3 months ago):
ow and unless i am wrong einstein has never been proven wrong on his science
destuctir (3 months ago):
and i agree the human race knows nothing of gravity albert einstein never unified gravity with the other forces if he unified it and the maths was sound then we wou-ld no everything but since he couldnt do it that is proof something is missing
destuctir (3 months ago):
granted brian cox often said that we knew this and that but the case you gave was sound in his favour every atom is different as they must hgave the same amaount of protons and electrons and neutrons dont make a difference here if the balance of protons to electrons is of then it isnt an element it is either a compund or is ionising and each atom has a different atomic number which the the amount of rpotons or electrons it has (doesnt matter wich they are equal) and each different atom produces different rays because of this they found an atom holding just over 90 protons and electrons and couldnt find anything higher and found all the ones between 1 and 93 (i think) so said as far as we know there are no more elements there is no proof what so ever that there are only this many but scientists can find any way to fit any more into the universe unless there are things like frozen starts far away
