I like boyh weapons equally, but if I prefer to use a melta with my tactical squad because it has the same range as the bolter
VictusDignitar (Over a year ago):
I prefer meltaguns because they won't kill my own men. I get really close with my meltagun and use it agains enemy vehicules. Once i blew vindicator, firing at ist front armor 13. Leaders, if they're not within any squad. If they get hit and wounded that's mostly instant death.
Shadow-Captain-Korvidae (Over a year ago):
I once killed off a 5 man black templars terminator squad and brought the terminator chaplain attached to them using two plasma cannons in turn 1.
mac (Over a year ago):
I;m in a mec army so i prefer to jump out of a rihno and blow up a tank because sisne i play sisters I have no laz cannons to take out those AM 14 and I prefer to try to double toufness sm and csm characters.
InquizatorKruger (Over a year ago):
I use melta guns in my grey hunter up to an army size 1500pts, once I get to 2500 to 3000pts I sdd only one more grey hunter sqaud but kitted out with plasma. The plasma team is a deamon killer or objective sitter. Since the Grey hunters have counter attack they just sit and shoot up anything with ap 12 or less comming at them
Shamnus (Over a year ago):
Melta > Plasma

Im really not impressed with plasma weaponry. Expensive and nothing special.
Meltas destroy man and machine with contempt. (but have short range)
Thillidan (Over a year ago):
yer take cannons, multi meltas are absolutly awsome, especially if u can get close enough to do damage. just sit in cover and destory those Land Raiders.

i think they should make it so IG heavy weapons teams can take Multi meltas, Plasma cannons, and maybe some cheap heavy stubbers
Ronin (Over a year ago):
Meltas all the way. I have a 5000 point army and 0 plasma guns. If you want plasma, take cannons.
mikeyvengenz (Over a year ago):
Melta is better for assaulting squads.
chaosgod5 (Over a year ago):
probably depends for situation
spartan (Over a year ago):
Personally, I prefer plasma guns. I play space marines so even in the event I roll a one my marine is likely to make his save. I don't like meltas because if I'm gonna attack a tank I'm not gonna go at it with a melta. I mean, in order for it to be truly effective you have to get it within six inches and I'm not a fan of rushing tanks. With plasma guns I my squads still get that extra hard punch with the same decent range.
SpacewolvesFTW (Over a year ago):
you have to look at this at a point of view that makes sense me i use melta guns with all grey hunters wont even look at the plasma because thwy arnt something thats gonna be sitting back all game there gonna see some close combat and when they do see a tank they will punch its face in with some melta goodness, but now if we were to look at something like a dread well different story. then it comes down to the units role will you send him after troops or tanks, if he's gonna be hunting tanks well the plasma works but it can scatter but gets its points back a ton when hunting troops, but if we were after tanks then put that multi melta on him. but then you have to look at is this a special unit too? lik Bjorn well he's friggin BS 6 i'll put a plasma on him in a heart beat, now i've got a dread with 13 front amour 12 side and 10 back with a BS 6 that template isnt going anywheres and this makes him a great unit for a plamsa cannon, so again it all depends on what you want the unit to do, what do they do best, and do their stats complament this role more then the alternative? but in the end it rly comes down to the gamers and what they like.
lasgun111 (Over a year ago):
i collect ig, and i favor the ploasma gun because i will, more often than not, get only one shot with the melta before i get assaulted. plasma gives me much more shots and the enemy most of the time wont make it to me to assault.
senri44 (Over a year ago):
USE FIRE DRAGONS
dario (Over a year ago):
i play blood angels and i would rather have a melta gun in a tactical squad put them in a rhino and then look for the biggest fatest tank and turn it into a flaming wrek
RAbbage (Over a year ago):
DragonBane... Vespid are terrible in CC. Actually they are just terrible. BS 3 1 shot at 12". I will pass and take some piranhas instead.
Thillidan (Over a year ago):
Plasma weapons are good, if u play tau (cause they dont overheat) so i think that the imperium should update its plasma so it doesnt overheat then the melta vs plasma will be even more difficult to solve.

But at the moment as imperial guard i would say meltas are more usful cause men dont last long in big games, so use stronger more AP weapons and fire at bigger targets. i mean my leman rus isnt even scared of a plasma gun in just blow them up. but if i get too close to meltas im toast...
matteuse (Over a year ago):
I use meltaguns in my chaos army. they work the best with a normle 10 man. Put the 10 man in a rino with 2 meltas and a icon and go around killing tanks!!
DragonBane (Over a year ago):
i agree but vespid stingwings could get in and kill sm in close combat pretty quick unless u spend the points on a flamer or a squad leader w/chain sword
Choco (Over a year ago):
I think whether you will give a squad a Plasma or Melta gun really depends on the type of the squad and their rules and roles in the game.
For example an assualt based squad (ie. a pack of Grey Hunters) would be better off with a Melta gun, as they can assault after firing and can easily deal out pain to nearby tanks. Also Melta guns are very important now in 5th edition as most armies are mechanised and you need that extra anti-tank punch. (then again Plasma guns can take care of mech as they have high str. aswell)
warhammericecreamman (Over a year ago):
DANG IT!!!
I'm a beginner, I play space wolves, and I put a plasma gun and 2 plasma pistols in my squad.
MASSIVE SCREW UP!
Ctanketchup (Over a year ago):
1st comment! Meltaguns are awesome:.D
Plazma weapons usually aren't worth it as you don't have much of a chance of killing anything before you get owned, unless your fighting tau.
Then it owns.
