Basing Tutorial (urban rubble)

Ok ummm where do i start, this is gonna be my 1st tutorial so be gentle.

Ok so the main stuff u will need is in the citadel basing kit that comes with a whole heap of resin slate and some premade resin bases, i cant remember if i comes with the sand but you will need the sand aswell as this stuff is a nice and fine sand which is better to work with compared to the older sand.

Paints/washes you will need are:
Codex Grey/Astronomican Grey/Adeptus Battlegrey/Graveyard Earth/Bleached Bone/Ogryn Flesh/Devlan Mud.

Ok so 1st i just gave the base a quick go over with the Graveyard Earth.

Then if u want select some feature bit for the base out of the basing set tub, ive gone with a pile of skulls for this base.

An Image

Also select a couple of medium slate to act as larger rocks on the base.

An Image

Then used some plastic glue to glue them to the base.

An Image

Ok now in the kit there will be a empty tub for mixing stuff together, for this base ive done a mix of 1/2 sand and 1/2 small slate to get the rocky effect.

An Image

Using some PVA glue and a junk brush coat the top of the base carefully going round the larger rocks and any resin pieces you also put on the base then dunk the base into the mix of sand and small slate and give it a bit of a shake with the lid on to cover the whole top of the base.

Open the tub and pull the base out also give it a few taps to remove any excess.

An Image

Then using a mix of water and pva slowly dab the glue over the sand and slate so this will glue everything down nicely so nothing will move when u goto paint the base. (i also sprinkled bit more small slate)

Once dry get a small drybrush and coat the whole top in adeptus battlegrey.

An Image

Then lightly drybrush some codex grey over the battle gray.

An Image

Then very lightly drybrush some astronomican grey mainly highlighting on the edges of the rocks and sand.

An Image

Then with a watered down mix of bleached bone go over the skulls with the small drybrush building up between coats.

At this point i went over the whole base(not the skulls) with a medium coat of devlan mud wash.

An Image

Now with the skulls i 1st did a light coat of ogryn flesh followed by a very light coat of devlan mud.

Also followed by a very light drybrush of astro grey once more over the stone to bring out the high parts.

And also a light drybrush of watered down bleached bone lightly over the skulls

Give the outer base a quick go around again with graveyard earth and the base is all done. i hope this helps Twiggerz and anyone else looking to do based like mine, i was mainly going for the sorta urban rubble basing.
