(This is a continuation of making Ork armor plates. we had some extra and decided to make some terrain out of them)
The beauty is that Orks are not the most artistic lot, and surely not perfectionists.
Materials:
Shrink plastic Ork armor plates, possibly mixed with set armor plates (ie from Truk kit) and bits
Water-based acrylic paint
Polymer Clay (Sculpey III, Primo, Fimo)
Brown paper or vellum
White glue & basing material
Cost: On sale, you can often get a block of Sculpey III for $0.99. It’s possible to get a pound of the stuff for about $13 (American).
The standard block of clay can make up to four of these bases and comes in many colors. (If the store you check only has clay for $3 per block, try another store!)
Time: Ten minute prep, fifteen minute bake, thirty minute cool… Allow at least an hour from start to finish.
Step One: Knead the polymer clay until it is soft and easily shaped. Roll out a log and flatten the edges, leaving the center thicker.

Step Two: Press the armor plates into the plastic, then remove them.
Step Three: Heat your oven to 275◦F, or according to clay package directions. Place clay on brown paper or vellum on a cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes (or according to clay package directions).
Step Four: After the clay has cooled, prime the base in a color slightly darker than your basing material.

Step Five: Coat the base in white glue, being careful not to put glue in the groves made for the armor, then dip into basing material. Wait a moment, then tap off the extra.

Step Six: Apply super glue (or a similar plastic-friendly glue) to the base of the armor and attach to the base. We added some bits made from molded polymer clay (see part other of Half Baked Ideas), a sprue, and a cut-off bit of bolter.
