This past Wednesday I was in our Welland Warhammer Club when I overheard a conversation that went a bit like this:

“Yeah, Wes thinks nothing can beat his Plague Marine Army.”

“Somebody should teach him a lesson.”

That’s when I stepped in and said,

“Excuse me? Nothing can beat his army? Hey Wes! Care to play against an Tyranid player!”

Wes shrugged and said “sure” and the great battle was set!

Great tension was in the air as everybody stopped talking. You could cut the mood with a knife.

(Actually, everybody just kind of kept playing and doing their thing, although Fireman Tim, sorry, Captain Fireman Tim the Terrain Guy seemed to be keen on me killing Wes’ army after having lost to them a few times.)

So here is the report on the battle that we had. It was a tough battle. I won’t give away who won until the end for those of you who want to keep guessing.

You can see all of the pictures in our Warhammer Gallery, but I will post thumbnails here.

Here is the setting of the game:

Points: 1500
Scenario: Seek and Destroy (AKA “Kill Everything”)
Special Rules: Hidden Set-up, Infiltrate, Deep Strike

For the hidden set up I placed a large piece of styrofoam to block our view from each other so that we didn’t have to write everything down.

The overall setup was quite interesting as we didn’t know what to expect when we lifted the barrier.

Here are some pictures from the set-up:

If I remember correctly here are our basic army lists:

Wes’ Chaos Plague Space Marines

22 Plague Marines (some with some extra weapons like plasma guns and power fists)
1 Chaos Lord (I think that’s what it was)
5 Chaos Terminators (with Nurgle icon)
1 Rhino
1 Predator
12 stupid crazy over-powerful hellbound Plaguebearers (can you tell who did most of the damage?)

Matthew’s Tyranids

1 Hive Tyrant
1 Broodlord
2 Carnifex
9 Warriors (one with Barbed Strangler, the rest with Deathspitters)
38 Termagaunts with Fleshborers
8 Termagaunts with Devourers
28 Genestealers (oh baby oh baby oh)

Normally a solid army, but wait until you see what happened in the second turn.

It’s getting late, so I am going to finish this battle report later.

Here’s a video I made with some of the pictures and some cool music.
