This is something that is rather interesting, and quite a debatable subject.
It appears that in Germany a fan based movie about the Warhammer 40K universe is being stopped because of copyright laws.
Something about German laws states that if any portion of the Intellectual Property of Games Workshop is handed over to somebody else, that it immediately becomes public to all (or something like that).

Copyright law scuppers fan film
It’s a hard debate as Games Workshop obviously doesn’t want to hand over their Warhammer intellectual property, but at the same time a fan-based film can only help this niche market.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’d do a grim story in the warhammer universe anyday, especially scene with an emporer who eats people!
i think they are idiots… i am sorry, i really love warhammer, but its seems they think fans like sheeps or cows… damn we want to make stories, films, minigames, everything about it…. (actually i am happy finishing painting my army).
Man I HATE copyright laws. Thier a pain in the butt! And half the time thier pointless. Like if i were to make a 40k vid I’d say in the beginning that it was owned by GW and i had no ownership/ ideas for it. And all iot’d do is promote it.
that is just naff y do that
leave the jerries alone!!!!!!!just make sure tthey state they have no intention to steal their ideas they just tryin to further the universe of 40k
germany should sort their laws out,i mean its a fan film the people just have to make it clear that they dont own gamesworkshop at the start of the video.
they could just go to a different country on holiday were the laws are different and make it their and then post it on the internet in that country.
sill they shouldent have to do that
Hasn’t this (news) been out for a long while? If I remember correctly, even if they wanted to redo it in another country with less totalitarian copyright laws they can’t, as one of their actors regrettably passed away.
